My eyelids rose and I found myself lying on a bed. I blinked, and looked around, wondering where I was. I saw, through the window, a lady dressed in white bustle past the room I was in. A hospital. I was in a hospital. Why on earth was I in a hospital?
I glanced around the room. The walls were divided horizontally with the paint; half was light blue and the other half was a dark, navy blue. It was large and almost empty, with only a T.V. in the corner and a round wooden table at the side. The table was loaded with vases and bouquets of flowers.
Yellow, red and white roses, tulips and orchids, and millions of others which I didn’t know the names of. It was like a colourful display. On another table beside me, lay heaps on envelopes, cards, posters and pictures.
I sat up a bit and lifted one of the pictures. On it, were three girls standing in front of a house, holding a poster that said, ‘Get well soon, Lilah!’. The poster had a picture of me on it, and there were ballet slippers decorating the Bristol board.
I frowned, wondering who the girls were. I opened one of the envelopes. It was another get well card, signed from Emmy and Cassidy. Who were all these people? I looked at the mountain of cards and wondered if they were all from people I didn’t know.
The door opened and my head shot over to see a doctor walk in, carrying a clipboard. I put the envelope back on the table and turned my attention to him.
He was one of those old, experienced looking doctors. “Ms. Force, you’re awake! Very good news. I’ll send your friends in after a few checkups.” He gave me a crinkly smile as he scribbled something on his clipboard.
I nodded. He took my pulse, had me say a few words, shone a light into my eyes and tapped my foot a few times.
He chatted to me during these things, telling me how worried everyone was, and there was even more flowers and things for me and they could only fit so much into the room.
My eyes widened at the thought of more gifts. Who were all the people sending me these things? I didn’t even know so many people!
The doctor, recording his results, read them over and nodded. “I’ll send your friends to you now.” He walked out of the room. I had to wait only a few seconds before people came barreling into the room.
Everyone crowded round my bed, hugging me, saying how glad they were I was awake, how scared they had been. I smiled and responded to them, but there was a slight crease between my eyebrows. After they quieted down, I asked them a question.
“It’s really nice to see how worried you were, and I’m really sorry to ask this, and extremely embarrassed, but, who are you?”
All the smiles vanished from their faces. I gave them a sorry look, but I didn’t know who they were at all.
“Li, don’t you know who we are?” asked one of boys who had dark hair with a bit of blond in it.
“Sorry, no.” I shook my head.
They looked at each other in horror.
“Well, I mean, I obviously know that you’re twins, but that’s kind of it,” I said, gesturing to the identical girls with dark hair.
“Lilah, it’s us. Your crew? I’m Isabel, don’t you remember?” asked a girl with light brown hair, obviously Isabel.
“…No?” I answered, what was supposed to be a statement came out like a question.
One of the boys with blond hair walked out the room, later returning with the doctor.
“Doc, what happened to her?” a girl with greenish eyes.
