Chapter 26: Back To Basics

Avalon and I walked the short distance to a nearby coffee shop called ‘The Dark Liquid’, which was a pretty odd name for a coffee shop, even though it made sense. Since the resort didn’t have coffee during the day, we didn’t have much of a choice. We walked back to the resort, sipping on coffees and Avalon took a bite of her blueberry muffin. “What do you think she’s doing right now?” she asked, referring to Rachel.

“Probably blushing so much she decided to become a tomato and stuck her head in the ground for an hour.” Avalon began laughing so hard she started choking on her muffin and I whacked her on the back a few times. My cell phone began ringing and I dug it out of my pocket.

“Hello?”

“Lilah! It’s James here, the music video is completely finished!” he said in one breath. James was the head director for the video.

“Really? That’s great, when can we see it?” I asked eagerly.

“I’m free for the rest of the day and at noon tomorrow,” he replied.

“Do you mind if we come to the studio today?” I asked, excited.

“Not at all! I’ll see you here in two hours?”

“Sure, until then.” I stuffed my phone back into my pocket.

“Who was that?” Avalon asked.

“James, the music video’s done!”

“Yes! I want to see it so badly, when can we go?”

“In two hours!” I cried. “Come on, let’s go tell the others!”

“What – today?! Okay, okay, I’m coming!” She raced after me, trying to balance her coffee and take another bite of her muffin at the same time. We took the elevator up to our floor and I walked inside the room, happy to see that everyone was there. I told them the latest news and they all began talking excitedly, since it was our first ever music video together.

Everyone hurriedly got changed and soon we were driving to the studio. As we got there, James walked outside to greet us. He could probably tell that we were all impatient to see the video since he wasted no time in getting us inside and soon we all sat crowded around a small television, watching the music video. James and his crew had done a fantastic job with the editing and cutting of scenes, and it looked amazing.

“Only thing to do, show Simon. I hope he’ll like it,” I said anxiously. As we left, James gave me a copy of the video on DVD so I could mail one to Simon, which we did at once, stopping at the post office on our way back to the resort.

As we entered our room, I realized we didn’t really have a reason to be in the Bahamas anymore. I glanced around at the girls and the boys, who were all talking. “Guys, shouldn’t we be able to go home soon?” I asked, a bit unsure of myself.

There was a short silence before Katie spoke up. “That’s true, isn’t it? We did finish the video.”

Soon everyone began nodding in agreement. “I’ll book seats for the flight,” Liam said, taking out his phone. I fell onto the couch and absentmindedly began playing with a lock of hair. I was overjoyed to go home, I missed it a lot. Hotels and resorts were nice and luxurious, but there was just something about being in your own house that other places could never replace.

On the other hand, I knew once we returned, the boys would have to leave. I didn’t know if the others realized this fact yet, but I had and I found myself worrying about it all the time. What would happen to us? Harry and I… would we drift apart? And the shaky almost-relationships between the boys and the girls, what would happen? Try as I might, my mind simply could not stop from going back to the fact.
