CHAPTER 62: THE FIVE

The Salvatore Boarding House

Natalie didn't even bother knocking. Why would she? It's not like either Stefan or Damon would get mad at her, this was probably the place she spent the third most of her time (the Gilbert house being the first and, unfortunately, school was the second) so it wasn't really a big deal. Of course, the house wasn't empty and a Salvatore was probably drinking. Usually it was Damon but this time was different.

"Hey, Stefan." she greeted as she walked into the parlor, him sitting there, sipping his brother's bourbon.

He turned around to face her, sending her a smile as he put his glass back on the table next to him. He stood up and walked up to stand by her. "Hi. What are you doing here?"

She smiled back for a moment before getting ready to actually get ready to tell him what she was actually doing there and why she wanted him to be there. "Well, you probably know about the hunter and everything so... yeah. But then you probably know about the whole exploding and the five crap that Klaus, Damon and I went through. But Damon seems to think the hunter is dead, but... I just can't see it."

"Why not?" he frowned in question, not seeing any way that the hunter could have survived a bomb going off and him not being able to get out in time.

Natalie scrunched her nose up as she wasn't completely sure herself. She just felt like that's how it was and she shouldn't fight it. "I don't know. I just have a feeling, okay?"

"Okay." he nodded, knowing better than to argue with anything Natalie felt or thought because he did not have the energy to fight with her, it was actually very rare that anyone did because she usually ended up winning anyway. "So, what do you suggest?"

"How do you feel about a trip to Klaus' house? He knows a lot more than he's been telling us."

The Mikaelson Mansion

They were proud. And the reason they were proud was that they somehow got through the mansion without being noticed by any of Klaus' hybrid bodyguards and then they walked into a room that neither of them had noticed during the last times they've been there, so they decided to investigate, only to find the hunter strung up against a piece of wood on the wall.

But then Klaus was quick to enter the room afterwards and the investigating duo hid in the shadows, but then again, vampire stuff so he could easily sense their presence. "Looks like I'll have to beef up the hybrid security detail."

Stefan then walked out of the shadows and Natalie realized that she should probably too and stumbled (literally) out behind him. "I was gonna take him, but I figured you went through such trouble to truss him up in your red room of pain."

"It's from the Inquisition. I thought it was a nice touch." the hybrid shrugged as he looked at the wooden contraption where the hunter, also known as Connor Jordan, was tied up.

Natalie just rolled her eyes at the small talk on torture devices or whatever the two vampires had, which made her feel not-so-strangely uncomfortable. "Well, what'd you get of him?"

"Not enough. He's mum about the Council fire and he's not saying anything about this greater evil we're all supposed to be shivering over." Klaus informed them bitterly, not happy about his interrogating skills had seemed to have worsened. "What brings you snooping?"

Stefan shrugged as he glanced at the brunette female next to him. "Natalie's weirdness. But the rest I can't say in front of him. As I'm sure you've figured out, our friend here can't be compelled."
