CHAPTER 26: THE DESCENT

The Mystic Grill

Even though Natalie's father was a teacher and it was expected that she'd follow the rules all the time, she didn't. With everything happening with all the supernatural crap she decided that it was time for a break, and the only place people of the lovely town of Mystic Falls went to was the Mystic Grill. And seeing as it was the only place, she was definetley going to run into some familiar faces, and she did.

The moment she saw Jules at the bar, talking to Sheriff Forbes she pulled out her phone and texted Damon the news, only for the other Salvatore brother to appear.

"Is that the-?" Stefan asked Natalie as he sat down next to her.

"Yup, just texted Damon." Natalie responded with a shrug.

"So you're doing his dirty work for him now." Stefan commented sourly as he glared at the ground.

"No, but I am doing work. If there is anything that can heal Rose's werewolf bite then it's probably something she knows. I didn't get anything out of Isobel's research." Natalie responded, her tone sour at his thoughts of her being Damon's minion, which was exactly what Jules thought, and Damon didn't deny.

Stefan hesitated for a moment before asking the question that he was waiting to ask. "Do you still know of a way to get in touch with Isobel?"

"Even if I did, she's a lying manipulative bitch who's not going to help." the brunette huntress glared at him for the suggestion.

"Katherine said that Isobel knew of Klaus." Stefan said bluntly.

"I should have known you weren't doing this for Rose. You're doing it for Elena," Natalie pursed her lips, Stefan looking at her woefully. "Fine, I have her old number, probably out of service."

"No harm in giving it to me then?" Stefan asked cheekily.

Natalie, however, was not amused. "You can't trust Isobel. I tried to give her a chance and she ruined it. And I'm her daughter, the one she raised and, not to sound egotistical, but if she won't do anything for me, she won't do it for Elena."

"I know that." Stefan responded.

Natalie did not respond, staring down at the floor sadly as her thoughts were consumed by her mother and her selfishness and  her determination to always let Natalie down.

Stefan saw her sadness, opting to help her with it slightly, grabbing her hand reassuringly.

Natalie sighed in defeat. "I'll see what I can do."

Natalie's Car

Hours later, Natalie finally found the number and texted it to Stefan. Then Damon texted her, telling her that after he, for some reason, put Elena on babysitting-Rose-duty and Elena being a human couldn't go up against a 560 year old vampire, causing Rose to run away whilst hallucinating.

And Natalie couldn't stop thinking about how much of an idiot Damon was.

His original meaning with the text was to Natalie out of harm's way and informed of the situation, and Natalie was perfectly understanding of it and was about to do just that.

Then her gaze was caught by a twinkling figure in the backseat. She frowned and reached for it, as most people would have done.

As she finally caught it in her hands, she brought before herself.

It was an arrowhead.

One of her arrowheads to be exact.

And that's when Natalie realized that she'd been too caught up with the trouble of the Salvatore brothers and their romantic affairs to remember who she really was.
