CHAPTER 71: INTO THE WILD
The Island
As much as Natalie would have prefered to simply stay at home and grieve the death of Kol Mikaelson, Stefan couldn't let her. He was worried for what she'd do at home, all alone with a whole bunch of weapons after losing someone she cared about, so she was coming along to find the cure, and then there was also the fact that if they needed it, her blood could wake Silas.
But her not wallowing in sadness didn't mean that she wasn't angry, in fact, she had left Stefan to tie a knot on his own because she was too busy glaring at Elena. "You know, you're not really helping."
Natalie turned to him with an annoyed look. "You'd think that after living 150 years you'd be able to tie a knot."
"You giving Elena the evil eye, it's not really helping." he just said again, only adding a little bit.
"Well, that's not weird considering the only thing I see when I look at her is her throwing Jeremy the white oak stake so he could shove it in Kol's chest." the brunette responded bitterly, placing herself on a log next to him.
He nodded in understanding, having known that she cared about him. He knew her well enough to know that she wouldn't sleep with someone she didn't care about, she wasn't that kind of person. "At least she gave you her blood."
"Yeah, to heal my wrists from the rope that wouldn't have been tied around them if it wasn't for her idiotic plan to kill him!" she stated, the wind blowing her hair into her eyes.
He didn't really know how to to respond to that and simply nodded, but he knew that he had to say something, seeing her stare at the ocean in front of them. "Are you okay?"
She turned to look at him abruptly, seeing as he was the only person who had asked her that yet, nobody had thought to. "Yeah, I'm- I'm fine. Just... tired of death, you know? I want the next person I see die to be me, and that's only because I'm me and I don't have a choice."
"Yeah."

It didn't take long before the whole group to start following Shane to whereever they were supposed to go. But nobody else had any idea where they were going, and they could only see trees all around.
Shane pulled his phone up but it wasn't working very well. "Satellite phone lost its signal."
Damon couldn't resist commenting on everything he could hear as usual. "Well, that's a good sign."
Elena wrapped her arms around herself as she heard the wind making the leaves around them move and rustle. "Is anyone else a little creeped out?"
"So then leave. Out of everyone, your presence is the least necessary," Rebekah commented, making the doppelganger glare at her. "I'm merely stating the facts. Jeremy has the spell on his body. Bonnie is the witch that unseals the cure. Shane is the human compass. Stefan and Natalie have the tombstone, which does god knows what. Natalie also has the magical awakening blood. And I happen to be the only one here who can fight someone older than 500 years old and win. And Elena has no point."
Damon quickly noticed that he hadn't been mentioned by her and frowned. "What about me?"
"You have a nice behind."

The group had later found out that a few college kids had left a camp behind on the island, allowing them to actually have a place to stay. Everyone had gone to sleep. Well, everyone but two of them.
Natalie walked out of her tent, seeing Stefan staring at the campfire and she say down next to him on another log. "How come nobody brought s'mores?"
"Couldn't sleep?" he asked, seeing her nod from her place next to him.
"Yeah, there's just too much on my mind right now," the brunette responded, and glanced at him hesitantly, not knowing whether or not to talk to him about it. "You know, I find it weird that every person I have ever kissed has died except you. Scott, Kol. You know, the day you told me you still had feelings for me, it was probably one of the scariest moments in my life."
"Why?"
She sighed, resting her chin in the palm of her hand. "You chose Elena. And it haunted me for a while and the hunter's curse found use of it and I decided that I really needed to work on becoming your friend. Because we've never been just friends. We were frenemies, we started liking each other but covered it up with friendship, we fell in love but then we covered that up with friendship. Now here we are. And you still have feelings for me and I still have feelings for you."
He turned to look at her with wide eyes, she hadn't exactly said that she had feelings for him in a while and he had thought that maybe they had gone away. "What are we gonna do about it?"
"Well, I think we have to wait to figure it out until after we find the cure, so I can have a little more time to grieve and you can figure out if you'd still like to take the cure with her." she said, and he knew she was right, who knew what would change after they found the cure.
"If I take the cure...it wouldn't be for her. It'd be for me." he told her, another way for him to say that he was over her.
She smiled at him proudly, happy that he seemed to learn to live for himself for once and not for her. "Goodnight, Stefan."
"Goodnight, Natalie."
But what they didn't know was that the moment they'd all go to sleep, someone would sneak into Natalie's tent and they left but not alone.
