I’ve made you all wait long enough so straight to the story…explanation on my disappearance at the end. Happy reading!
Recap
"This camp is important to me, not just Brent. And life would be a hell of a lot easier, if we just put the past behind us and start over? As friends, of course" he said, extending his hand out towards me.
I stared at his hand, before grasping it within my own, "Friends.."
"Great, I’m glad that’s all settled" he said, grinning from ear to ear.
"Now get your little a** ready, we still have a lot of training to do!" he said, playfully throwing me my soccer shorts.
I caught the shorts with ease and watched as he walked out of my room, closing the door behind him. As soon as he left I sense of unease settled over me. Friends, he wanted to be friends? Why was agreeing to be friends leaving me feeling so disappointed?
Chapter 9
Kayli’s PoV
"Come on champ, one more lap to go!" Sam said, running backwards while grinning down at me.
I groaned, "This isn’t fair, I feel like I could barf at any moment and you have barely broken a sweat."
This three mile "warm up" had me wanting to curl up and die. My lungs felt like they had been ripped out of my chest a few laps ago, my legs growing weaker and weaker by the minute. I never realized how out of shape I was until I entered Sam and Brent’s sick and twisted idea of a soccer boot camp.
"Thanks for the visual. Come on K, let’s race to the finish. You know you don’t want to let me win!" Sam smirked, raising one eyebrow challengingly at me.
"If that is suppose to motivate me to finish… it’s working" I huffed out, using the last ounce of energy I had to race towards the end of the field.
The breeze felt pleasant against my hot face as I ran, leaving Sam in the dust. Ten feet left to go, I turned around to gloat, when a blurry figure rushed past me. Snapping my head around, my eyes grew wide, how the hell? There stood Sam at the end of the field, grinning like a Cheshire cat.
My legs were throbbing and about to give out on me when I finally reached Sam, collapsing to the ground. In the distance I could hear Brent shout "Get your fat lazy ass up," to which I responded to by flipping him the bird. Sam chuckled at me and Brent’s exchange.
"Good job squirt" Sam said, while crouching down to me and handing me a water.
I poured it on my flamed cheeks, before chugging the rest of it, "Thanks, mhmm that’s the stuff" I said, wiping the excess water off my face.
"You ready for more?" he said standing up.
"Water? A cold shower? This day to end? Sure!" I shot back.
"Haha I wish, nope it’s time to hone your soccer skills?" Sam said, a serious tone in his voice.
"Hone? Who speaks like that? For your information I don’t need to hone anything….I’m perfect" I said, playfully nudging him with my foot.
"I know" Sam mumbled quietly under his breath.
"What did you say?" I said, sticking my fingers in my ear as I heard my heartbeat ringing in my ears.
Clearing his throat, "I said, sure you are hot stuff but I think your brother may beg to differ. We all know you are talented but at this camp everyone will be just as talented. You need to set your self a part from everyone else. Talent alone won’t get you far, you need to put in some hard work. Now get up before you force Brent to hobble his ass over here to yell at you."
