Recap
I heard him take in a deep breath before responding, “You will be happy to know they didn’t sleep together. Apparently Gwen has been after him for quite some time and tried to seduce him when he was drunk that night but you walked in before anything happened. Now the real kicker is that Caleb thinks they did because Gwen convinced him that it happened. She claims to be in love with him but says nothing happened until that night and it was only a kiss.”
I was completely still, my mind was racing and I felt numb all over. A part of me was so relieved that they didn’t sleep together but another part of me was still angry, he kissed her. In my mind that was still cheating, there was obviously something wrong with our relationship or it never would have happened in the first place. Was I to blame, or was he? Or Gwen? She was my best friend and was actively trying to steal my boyfriend, what kind of person does that?
“KAYLI!!! IF YOU DON’T ANSWER ME THIS SECOND I AM DRIVING DOWN THERE!” Charlie’s voice boomed in my ear.
“I’m here, sorry that was a lot to process” I sighed.
“Tell me about it, so what are you going to do now?”
“Honestly, I have no clue.”
Sam’s PoV
Kayli charged out of the room like her cute ass was on fire and my eyes were instantly drawn to the way her hips swished seductively back and forth. I let out a frustrated growl once she was out of the room. That girl is going to be the death of me one day and that sad part is she doesn’t have a clue how much she affects me. I laid back on the bunk, rubbing my temple as my head began to throb. The jealousy I felt from earlier when I walked in to find Xavier and Kayli chatting easily together was still surging through me.
They seemed so comfortable together, a far cry from just hours ago when they seemed to detest each other. The fact that she was giving him her real smile, the one where her eyes crinkle up at the corners and her button nose scrunches up slightly, really irked me. She never smiled at me like that, the only thing I seemed to inspire was a smirk or eye roll. And Xavier, that asshole was definitely looking at her in a more than friendly way. This camp was suppose to be a reprieve from watching guys fawn all over her and now not only do I have to worry about that dick Caleb being around, our freaking bunk mate seems to have formed a little crush.
Well fuck that, I’m going to nip that infatuation in the butt, no way is that sleaze ball getting near her without me being around. I was pissed off that he knew Kayli’s secret, I didn’t trust the kid and as far as I’m concerned the guy better sleep with one eye open if he knows what’s good for him. My fist clenched at my side as I thought about how good it would feel to punch his arrogant face, a sharp pain shot through my arm and I looked down at my hand. My knuckles were still red and raw from when I punched Caleb earlier. Kayli really brings out the caveman side of me; I just wanted to punch any guy that so much as looks at her.
I needed to get an ice pack on my hand before it swelled up any further; begrudgingly I got off my bunk and headed out of the room towards the nurse’s station. Looking outside as I passed a window, I spotted Kayli sitting alone. Her back was against the wall and she was staring down at her hands, twisting them in her lap. Knowing that as a gesture she did when she was upset, I immediately forgot about my throbbing hand and went outside. As I got closer, I took in her forlorn face. Her shoulders were slumped forward, almost as if in defeat.
