Recap
“One date, that’s all I’m asking for. What do you say?” he asked with a hopeful look.
Knowing I was going to regret this later, “Fine, but it’s not a date. It’s just two friends hanging out, got it? And I’m only going to go through with this if you hold up your end of the bargain. Your Uncle already has it out for me, so good luck on making me look good in front of him.”
“Impossible, you mean someone hasn’t fallen under Kayli Reed’s charms” he gasped.
“Shut up, it isn’t funny. Old man Sam drove like 10mph on the way up here so we arrived late. I had to run suicides until I almost dropped dead. Plus you forget I’m Brent, not the fantastically awesome Kayli Reed” I explained, lightly slapping Caleb on the shoulder.
He smiled when I touched him and for a second it was like old times, us bantering back and forth. It was just so easy being around him sometimes and in that moment I realized how much I really missed him, not just as my boyfriend but my friend as well.
Clearing my throat I hastily pulled my hand back, “Well I should get going…”
“Um yeah, I guess I will see you later” he said, scratching the back of his head, a habit he did when he was nervous.
“Oh course you will…Coach Marks” I smiled.
He laughed and smiled that smile that lit up his whole face. I walked away and headed back to the dorms. This summer just kept getting more and more interesting. I’m at an all-boys camp pretending to be a boy and let me tell you it isn’t as easy as I thought, my brother’s annoying best friend keeps plaguing my thoughts with his constant mood swings and ability to throw my hormones out of whack, and my ex-boyfriend who broke my heart is now my coach, what else could possibly happen?
Chapter 15
Charlie’s PoV
Secret lovers, yeah, that's what we are
We shouldn't be together but we can't let it go
'Cause what we feel is, oh so real
So real, so real, so real, so real
The familiar Atlantic Starr ringtone went off, indicating Kayli was calling me...it was a running joke between us that we were secret lovers, well that’s what everyone around us thought anyways because we were so close, so we thought that it would be a fitting ringtone for each other.
“Missing me already lover?” I drawled as I plopped down on my bed.
“Charlie!!” Kayli screeched out on the other end.
“Whoa girlfriend you are going to bust my eardrum so calm down before you speak, what’s wrong?” I reasoned, while cautiously holding my sore ear.
“WHAT’S WRONG!? EVERYTHING!!” she bellowed out, leaving me to think she really did bust my already sensitive eardrum.
“And you say I’m dramatic...Kayli I don’t speak howler so bring your voice down another fifty octaves and explain what’s wrong” I said seriously, my poor ear couldn’t handle another outburst.
I could hear her taking calming breaths on the other end and my mind pondered all the possible reasons for her behavior. Hmm, maybe my man Sam finally made a move. I know that boy has had some pretty intense feelings for my girl for a long time. They would make such a cute couple and their babies, can somebody say “gorgeous.”
“Charles Hamilton Rhodes are you even listening to me?!” Kayli said, pulling me out of my daydream of cute little Kayli’s and Sam’s running around.
