"What?!" Nicholas screamed, rage fueled from his inner wolf. He smashed his fist on the wooden table, and a faint slit stayed in the middle of it as a result. The other Alphas around him frowned at his unusual behavior, him who was always so calm, and in control of his emotions. They noticed something had changed inside him. He violently pushed the nervous guard out of his way, and bolted out of the room.

"No one ever touches our mate..." A voice inside his head whispered in anger.

Maria truly thought this was going to be the end of her. "This is the way I am going to die..."

Even if they were fast, she had been able to get a head start, and in the midst of her adrenaline pumped panic, she had miraculously lost them. She could no longer see them, but she could hear them, sniffing, growling, and grunting. "What are they?!"

As she made her way though the woods, her dress got caught in a stubborn thorn in a bush who decorated the trails. She pulled, and pulled, but it would not budge. Hearing them get closer, Maria snapped the branch off, the thorn pricking her fingers in protest. She was running for what felt like an eternity, and her feet became heavier with each step. Yet, she was to frightened to stop. Her gnawing gut feeling was her only fuel at the moment.

One of the wolves snuck behind her silently as she was running. It was one who was particularly fast, and it bit the edge of her heal, making her fall to her stomach. Maria felt the air in her lungs escape in one big huff, and she rolled on her back. The musky colored wolf jumped on her legs while growling with spit dripping out of his mouth savagely. The girl refused to give up without a fight, and she grabbed a rock a little smaller than a football. She threw it, and it landed roughly on the furry head of the wolf, who whimpered at the pain. It reared off of her body, and jerked his head away, with a ferocious snarl. Maria grabbed a fistful of dirt, and threw it in it's eyes. This time, the beast backed away, blinded for a few seconds, and Maria was able to get herself up on her feet, and ran away as fast as she could. An angry howl was heard, as she started to put some distance between her and the monster.

She started to lose her breath, and began feeling the harsh pull of fatigue. The girl wouldn't be able to run away much longer. Maria needed a place to stop, a safe place where she could hide. Sadly, there was nothing for miles, other than the mansion, which would mean that she would have to face the beasts head on, and that was out of question for the girl. There was no garage, no little cabin nearby, or a shed. Nothing. She couldn't fight, she wouldn't stand a chance. They would kill her in mere seconds. The girl shivered at the thought of the monsters shredding her to pieces, with her dead eyes haunting her mind.

Nicholas ran outside, pushing or crashing into anything that stood in his way. His father had tried to follow him, but the boy was not waiting for him. He made his way towards the woods behind his house, and stopped only a split second to sniff the air. A sugary, yet still spicy scent lingered to his nose. He quickly shifted, and his claws dug deep in the dirt, as he propelled himself forward. While his ears analysed the noises around him, his eyes scanned the area, searching for a hint of a green dress. The boy could hear his heart beat, as if it was held up to his ear. He had no idea how it could ever be possible, but he had a strange feeling that it was his mate's heartbeat, as if they were connected as one, on the same beat.

The thought of his mate in trouble was able to infuriate him, and it pushed him to go faster. Another wolf reached him, even if he was struggling to keep up, his bloodthirsty eyes told Nicholas all he needed to know about what would happen to Maria if he didn't get to her first. He lunged on his back, biting down on his neck, and pulling him down as they crashed in the dirt, Nicholas on top of him. The metal taste of blood pooled in his mouth, and a wolf grin grew on his furry face.
