"Ladies and Gentlemen, we are about to begin our final descend to Ninoy Aquino International Airport. We are glad to tell you that we are ten minutes ahead of our expected ETA. Currently at NAIA the weather is fair with a temperature of 31 °C. We have certainly enjoyed having you on board today, we hope to see you again real soon, and thanks again for flying with Continental Airlines."
Hearing that from the captain somehow excites my tired mind. It has been almost 24 hours of travel from BWI airport to NAIA including all the stop-over. I released a heavy breath as the plane touched down. Darkness is already starting to cover the sky. I look at my watched and it's already 10 minutes before six in the evening.
The weather here is really different. No. This wasn't my first time. I had a subject here one year ago. Too bad I can't remember his name anymore. I grab a taxi cab and the driver was all smile. "Good ebning ma'am. Where to?" He asked me in english but the accent though. He already had gray hairs and maybe in his late fifties.
"Dito manong oh" I handed him the address which he took after he regained his composure. All about my physical attributes are of a foreigner but the way I talked using their language is perfectly the same as them.
"Marunong kang magtagalog ma'am?" he has with that surprised and disbelief expression on his face.
"Opo. Ilang oras po ba ang biyahe natin manong?" I've mustered the right accent of how Filipino speaks kaya siguro nasurpresa si manong. It wasn't the usual twang when foreigners talked. Tunog pinoy talaga.
"Mga lagpas one hour pa ma'am. Traffic na kasi ngayon, rush hour." I looked at the rear view mirror at tinanguan nalang si manong. I felt so tired from that long flight. It was like all my energy was drained. And I am fucking hungry too.
After exactly one hour and 20 minutes the cab stop in front of Princeton Tower. It was the name of the condominium building where Dad bought a unit for me. "Thank you manong ha" I told him at binigyan sya ng tip before he left. I only have one traveling bag with me containing all my important documents and other things na pwedeng magkasaya. I can always go shopping for additional clothes tomorrow.
The guard on duty greeted me as I entered the building. Because I am new the receptionist called someone to accompany me in my unit. It was room number seven in the 3rd floor. This is a twelve storey building with four units in each floor so you'd expect that each unit were big. "This is your unit ma'am. Thank you for choosing Princeton tower." The girl smiled sweetly at me so I smiled in return before I went in.
It was fully furnished, the receiving room is big with a complete sofa set and big flat screen TV. The dining area and the kitchen were huge too. It has two rooms and I chose the one on the right. This place is really big for someone living alone. But this was already paid and I am very much thankful to Dad.
I drop my bag on the floor and sink my back on the bed. In an instant sleep got a hold of me and I forgot about my hungry stomach. I woke up past ten pm. I stood up and went straight to the kitchen but unfortunately walang laman ang ref even the cabinets. I went back to my room and fix my hair. I decided to go out, there was a 7/11 store just two blocks from here. I saw it awhile ago.
