~Blaze~

I felt like I had been hit by a semi, which, under the circumstances, made a whole lot of sense. More important than the how I felt though was the bundle of happy tears I now called girlfriend. Lacey was my girlfriend. Fuck, just thinking it made me happy as hell. A part of me wanted to pull her onto the bed with me and just hold onto her forever but I was betting Dad Sean wouldn't let me. And there was something I needed to do first. I wanted to start this relationship off on the right foot. I stroked a hand over her hair and cast a quick glance at Dad Sean, who was watching us with an amused expression I was about obliterate. I tried taking a deep breath but ended up just coughing instead. Hell, I freakin hurt, plus I had the headache from hell.

"Doll, "I started, a little surprised at how weak and tired I sounded, "I'm sorry about what happened, it had nothing to do with you or what you asked." Lacey pulled back to look at me, wiping the tears off her face.

"No, I had no right..." Her eyes slid away from me. No right? Fuck that shit! I grabbed her face and brought her gaze back to mine.

"You had every right, Doll. This relationship is about BOTH of us, plus you're the one who had to kiss me. You had every right to ask me to quit smoking." I didn't even dare look at Dad Sean now that cat was out of that particular bag. "I want to do things right, so as of this moment I'm done with the cigs, okay?" I waited for her nod, then slumped and closed my eyes. Damn, I was tired. That small amount of talking had sapped all my energy. I guess it was to be expected after getting my head slammed into the road. Wait...What happened to my bike?

"Alright lovebirds, Let me look over my son." Oh hell, I was gonna have more talking to do. Never got around to explaining my dads to Lacey, speaking of which I wasn't looking forward to dealing with dad. It was all too much to deal with at the moment, so I shut it all out of my brain before my head exploded. I was still reluctant to look at him, but I knew I couldn't avoid him forever. Plus there was something I really needed to know.

"My bike?" I croaked it out, coughing afterwards. Lacey snatched up the large plastic mug of water on a swing arm table next to the bed and offered it to me. Drinking some of it down helped the parched desert my throat had become. I heard Dad Sean chuckle as Lacey tried to move away to let him in. I grabbed her hand to stop her. I didn't want her leaving. She smiled at me and slipped her hand from mine, taking a seat in a nearby chair.

"I have no idea what's happened to your bike kiddo, ask North. " I finally slid my gaze to his face. He had his "Doctor" face on and I was feeling too much like a sack of shit to figure out if that was good or not. "You got very lucky Blaze. I won't start in on the 'Why weren't you wearing a helmet' since your about get more than enough of that but you have to know just how lucky you are." Dad Sean perched on the edge of the bed and gave me a very serious stare, one I knew meant he was talking as both a doctor and my dad, "Blaze, if you had hit that pavement any harder we probably wouldn't be having this conversation, understand?" I gave a short nod that sent my head reeling and had me closing my eyes. I knew what he wasn't saying. " You'll get a pretty new scar on the back of your head once the seven staples they put in are done, How you didn't fracture your skull is a mystery but a miracle that I, for one, won't question. You have a pretty severe concussion kiddo, which means overnight here, and no, your girlfriend can't stay." Dad Sean grinned at me and I had to give a half hearted chuckle because honestly the idea had occurred to me. I thought, for half a second, that was all but then Dad Sean dropped the doctor and was just Dad, and upset shone in his eyes. "Why, Blaze?" I didn't have an answer so I slid my eyes to where Lacey was curled up in the chair, "I honestly don't know how to react to this. You knew the dangers of smoking Blaze and still...Well, at least someone got through to you about it." Dad Sean patted my arm and rose, "Alright kiddo, I've hogged you enough. Someone wants to see you so brace yourself." I snatched Dad Sean's arm, not ready to face Dad yet.
