So, with all the stories about vampires and werewolves, I was looking for a different kind of fantasy to write about. Then it came to me in a dream, what about mermaids? So, I hope you guys like what I did with them!!!

I sighed in content. Today really was the perfect day. I was sittng on a rock in the warm Atlantic Ocean, coral and sea plants around me, sun shining through the clear blue water. Every now and then, fish would swim by, or one of my friends would swim lazily past. But for the most part, I was alone. And I was okay with that.

What I wasn't okay with though, was my very best friend, Aaron sneaking up on me and pulling my hair.

"Ahhhh!" I screamed and jumped off the rock I was lounging on. My turquoise tail propelled me backwards into a cluster of seaweed.

When I emerged, Aaron was bending over, holding his stomach, laughing his tail off.

I tried to glare at him, but couldn't. I hadn't seen Aaron in 3 months, due to the fact that he was off on an exploration retreat with his brother and father, while I was stuck here. They were going to see if they could uncover any human artifacts from a sunken pirate ship from a hundred years ago.

When Aaron wasn't looking, I launched myself at him, wrapping my arms around his neck, my tail intertwining with his.

I buried my face in his neck and said "I missed you so much Aaron!!! It's been so boring here without you. All the other merfolk only care about getting me married, not having fun."

He chuckled into my hair, which was floating around, as it always does. "I missed you to Adrienne. But shouldn't I call you Princess now?"

I sighed and pulled myself away, sitting back on the rock. "I hate how formal everybody is. There's nothing to do here! So please, just act normal, and don't call me Princess. Just call me Adri, like you always do."

He drifted over to me and took my hands in his own. "If that's what you want, I'll do it Adri."

I gave him a small, watery smile. Seeing as though I was 18, I had just come of age. So my mother, queen of Oceania, was telling everyone to call me Princess, and trying to find me a 'suitable' husband. But I wanted no part in that. I just wanted to be free to do what I want to do.

But I couldn't. My mother ordered at least 2 guards to always be with me. So now I had no freedom. And if I had no freedom, I couldn't ever follow my life-long dream to go to the surface, and see actual humans.

Only Aaron knew of my crazy dream.

Apparently my sadness was showing on my face, because he grabbed my hand a started swimming away from Oceania, towards the kelp forest. An unspoken message passed between us. We were going to go to a secret sunken ship in the very bowels (teehee) of the forest.

For the past 2 years, since we discovered it, it had always been our place. We agreed to not tell anybody about it, to keep it our little secret.

But upon entering through one of the portholes, I could tell something was wrong. The place looked like it was ransacked. When we first found this place, Aaron and I had tidied it up a bit, put things back in their place.

However, now everything was messed up, ravaged, destroyed.

I swam around, confused. "Who would do this? Who would find this place?"

Aaron was just floating there, shock and hurt on his face. Aaron put his heart and soul into fixing up the ship, and to see it destroyed, it probably killed him.
