"Am-am I dead?" the man asked, reaching out, almost as if he was trying to touch me.

I pulled away, frightened by this strange mans voice. It was the first human voice I'd ever heard, and i was astounded by how rough it sounded.

"Adrienne! Come back here! You've saved him, now lets go!" Aaron was yelling at me from the sea.

I knew that I should've gone back to Aaron, but I couldn't help but stay on the beach for just a moment longer. This strange, dirty, beautiful human fascinated me.

"Adrienne!" Aaron was still yelling at me from the water, but I couldn't pull my eyes away from the man lying in front of me.

Apparently, niether could he. Still reaching out to me, the man slowly pulled himself into a sitting position, glanced down at my tail and said, "Well, I'm either dead, or dreaming." Then he touched my tail, stroking it almost.

With that, I knew that it was time to make my exit. I jumped away from the man, into the ocean and Aarons awaiting wrath.

As I predicted, Aaron was furious with me. "What were you thinking! You just let a HUMAN, HUMAN see what you are! Do you know what kinds of repurcussions this could have on Oceania? Or did you completly forget about your home?"

"Aaron!" I exclaimed. "Stop, I get it. It was dumb, and risky, but I don't regret it. In fact, I want to go there again."

"Again? What are you talking about. I am never going to let you go there again. You are the princess. Do you realize what could happen if you got captured by humans?"

"Aaron, you don't understand. He wasn't horrifed by my tail. He, he liked it. I actually think that he thought it was beautiful."

Aaron came over to me and patted my head. "Adri, I hate to be the one to break it to you, but humans, they have the inability to love. Espically merfolk. All they'll want to do with you is put you on display, show you off like a freak."

"How do you know? Have you ever even met one? Talked to one? Gotten to know, actually know one?"

He paused at that, and my suspicions were confirmed. Aaron didn't really know anything about humans, how they really are. He only believed what he had been told all his life.

"Aaron," I said. "You don't have to hate them, you've been told to for your whole life, I get it. But I believe that there isn't really anything wrong with humans."

He sighed, a deep and heavy sigh that caused a stream of bubbles to float up to the surface. "Fine you may go back up to the surface-on one condition!" he said when he saw me start up to the surface. "You must stay in the water, no going up on the beach. You also must not be in sight of any humans. And you must not talk to any humans. Agreed?"

I nodded. "Agreed."

The next day, I swam back up to the surface, hoping to catch another glimpse of the beautiful human who I saved. All day, I stayed paiently waiting in a crop of rocks, far enough away from the shore to please Aaron. But all my waiting was usless. He never showed.

Everyday for the next week I waited there, to no avail. But finally, on the last day of the week, right when I was going to give up, he came to the beach.

I saw why the man hadn't been to the beach in a week. He had bandages all around his body, and a crutch to help him walk. My heart swelled at the fact that my human - and I did think of him as mine- hadn't abandoned me.

I decided right then and there that I was in love with him. He would be the man I was going to marry.

'To hell with the laws about me marrying a prince. I WILL marry this man.' I thought.

He stayed sitting on the beach, unmoving, until sunset.

Aaron came and got me just as the suns final rays slipped below the horizion, sinking into the ocean.

"Adrienne, we should go. You need rest, and food."

I turned away from my beloved, and faced Aaron. Glancing down at my stomach, which was so like a humans in many ways, I realized that Aaron was right. I was famished, hunger knawing at me like a viscious shark, waiting to attack.

"You're right of course. When aren't you Aaron?"

"Almost never," he said with a condescending smile on his arrogant face.

I flicked my tail at him and swam away laughing.

Hey so I decided that after my like, 3 month long break (aka: I lost the motivation to write) I made up a schedule. I will update this story on one day, and my other story the next day. I'll try to keep the updates to like every 2-3 days.

Anyways, I really like this chapter. And the other day I went to this english seminar thing and it got me feeling really smart so I made this chapter extra wordy. Hope you like it!
