SURPRISE! I published the second chapter a couple of days earlier because of all the encouragement I've been getting so thank you guys and I hope you like it!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
They each carried a gun in their hands and I suddenly notice that we're alone on the street.
The cars that were rushing by moments ago seems to have cleared away at the mere sight of the men. I tremble with fear while I watch them make their way toward us.
Aaron quickly gets in front of me and says," When I give you the sign, run, don't hesitate, just do it!"
I could feel my body burning hotter with every second. I thought it must be the heating sun but I'm even sweating.
This heat felt different, more like it was coming from within me rather than from the outside. I suddenly feel a cool breeze brushing against my cheek and look up just in time to see one of the men being thrown off by a strong gust of wind. I couldn't believe my eyes.
I just witnessed a man being thrown almost 10 feet high by wind that was not even here two seconds ago. I glance at Aaron to see his eyes shut and a look of concentration stamped on his face.
He's murmuring something softly under his breath that I couldn't quite hear because of the strong wind that was now holding back two of the men.
I felt angry again. I haven't been awake for an hour and now there were people out to kill me apparently? I have a perfect memory of the world but I remember nothing of people being able to control the wind.
I feel my body flush with heat as a small paragraph seeped into my mind. I start repeating it without a minutes hesitation and am surprised by how familiar the words feel against my lips:
"Within the wind. Inside the fire.Beyond the veil.Across the great divide.Secret fire.Sacred burning.Ageless and endless. Eternally turning!"
I heard myself yell the last words as an electric shock goes through my body and I open my eyes just in time to see a huge wall of fire coming out of nowhere, standing between us and the men.
The fire was burning so high , we couldn't even see their faces anymore. I glance at Aaron who's standing there in gulping deep breaths, trying to calm himself. When he looks up at me, he has the same shocked expression as before.
I self-consciously look away but he gently takes my hand in his and starts leading me away from the men and the fire.
I didn't really know where we were going and I didn't bother asking. My mind was still reeling with thoughts of what just happened, trying to come up with a reasonable explanation but nothing came to my mind. Nothing.
There is absolutely no explanation to why suddenly all the cars disappeared, to why it felt like we were in the middle of a tornado and to why a chant came to my mind or how the hell I created a wall of fire, but I was sure of two things:
1- Those men in suits were trouble
2- I was not your ordinary teenage girl.
I felt a flood of disappointment at that. I guess I hadn't really thought about the fact that I was not normal, and I did not know that I wanted to be normal so badly until Aaron led me in o a series of turns
In a small neighborhood. We've only been walking for about 6 minutes but it seems like a lifetime to me as we pass small red brick buildings and occasionally, a cluster of boys playing football.
They didn't seem to notice us as Aaron dragged me by my arm.
Finally, we entered a white building at the end of a left turn. We took the elevator to the third floor and Aaron removed a set of keys from his pocket as he led me to the door at the end of the hallway that marked: Apt.315. He unlocked the door and opened it up for me, like a gentleman.
