"I can't believe you talked me into doing this," Carter whispers as our eyes move over the bodyguard standing by the wooden door at the end of the library.
"I have my ways," I whisper back, smiling innocently.
Carter rolls his eyes before turning his attention to the humongous African-American man by the 'forbidden door'.
"Okay, we need a plan," I say, moving back behind the book-shelf we're using as a cover to spy on the bodyguard.
Carter stays quiet and I repeat my sentence but he doesn't reply the second time either.
"Hello? Earth to pretty boy." I roll my eyes at him when he smirks, obviously liking the nickname I gave him.
"Okay, we're good to go," he suddenly says before starting to walk towards the bodyguard.
"What the hell are you doing?" I yell quietly before pulling his arm. "We can't let him see us, remember?" I raise an eyebrow at him when a genuine smile crosses his features, showing off his cute dimples.
"I have a spirit affinity so I was able to read a simple spell to shield us from Vampyre's eyes for an entire hour. That should give us enough time to get in, find what you're looking for and get out without being noticed."
I feel a smile forming on my lips as I jump on Carter and hug him.
"You're a genius," I whisper, smiling at his surprised face.
"Come on," he says, taking my hand in his and leading towards the door.
"Wait, if we open the door, the bodyguard will notice!" Carter says just as my hand is reaching for the door handle.
"Oh...right, "I say before quickly remembering the spell I performed at Aaron's apartment. "That's it!"
I quickly murmur the words I remember so clearly and feel myself lift into the air.
"Woah, what did you do?" Carter gazes at me with amazement.
"You shield us and I'll steer us," I reply, giving him a quick wink which causes a sweet sound of laughter to escape his perfect lips.
"Hurry, " I whisper urgently as I float towards the door. I feel myself go through the door, feeling the unfamiliar and surprisingly fun sensation of being able to run through objects.
It's dark inside but with a flick of my fingers, a small flame in my hand lights a small part of the room, allowing me my first glimpse of the forbidden chamber.
"Wow..." I mutter as a shiver runs through my body.
The room itself had an eerie feel to it with it's black bookshelves, black carpet and black walls. The dust in the room made me cough and the smell of old books filled my nostrils.
"What is that?" I ask, my eyes widening at the carved symbols covering all the walls.
Carter moves closer to them, squinting as he examines them.
"I have no idea...I've seen many symbols before but nothing like this. These must be very advanced, which means that they're probably protection spells." He tenses as he pronounces each word.
"So..."
"So, we need to hurry the hell up before something happens that breaks our spell or before the Headmistress senses that something is wrong and comes rushing in," he says, pulling me by the wrist to the nearest bookshelf.
"Okay, okay," I whisper, glancing at all the ancient books in front of me. "Search for a book that has anything unique about it...Or that involves history."
