I stared into the mirror, a big white bandage was plastered onto my face. I wasn't even aloud to go to school because the doctor said so. So I stayed in my bed room and counted the blue spots on my ceiling, yet again. Words gotten around school about Katrina and we all found out who the real father was. Darcy Jewer, one of Alex's hockey buddies. Speaking of Alex, he was suppose to be here a hour ago.
"Someone call for a best friend?" I heard a familiar voice rejoice.
I sat up and ran to her and hugged her. "Christine! I thought you weren't coming home until tomorrow!!" I squeaked, hugging her tightly. Well, I didn't seem like a girl at all.
"Alex called and we never got to the semifinals so I got the first bus home. I can't believe that thing would do such a think for Alex! I want to kill her," Christine went all gossip girl on me. "And then Kathleen, I didn't think she had it in her. She seemed so timid in gym."
"When did you become a gossip girl?" I raised a eyebrow.
"Since I spent a hour on the phone listening to Kathleen go on and on about why she got suspended," Christine sat on my bed. "Everything amazing happens when I'm not home but in New York instead." She sighed. "Which reminds me, I have something for you!" She jumped off the bed and dug into her pockets.
"What is it?" I questioned her, watching as she threw napkins and empty candy wrappers onto my hardwood floor. She finally pulled out a little gift bag.
"I was going to wait until your birthday but that's a month away! So I decided to give it to you now," She hauled out two sliver chains and held it up for me to see. It was a beautiful heart split in two. I touched it with the palm of my hand and pushed the two pieces together with my thumb. "C & J Unrelated Sisters Forever" was engraved into the heart's metal frame in bold child-written font. My eyes began to swell up and I was crying onto my bandage. It was one of the most beautiful things I ever could be given.
"It's beautiful Christine," I took the chain with the "J" engraved into it, guessing it was for me. I pinned it on my neck and wore it with pride. "I couldn't ask for anything better!" I hugged Christine again.
"I hoped you'd like it. I saw it and had it engraved just for us. As long as you wear it I know your love as a friend for me is real. God blessed me with you and I'm really glad for it," Tears began to flow in her eyes. "They say real friends are hard to fine because the best one is already mine."
"You stole that off the Internet.." I caught her.
"Shut up and don't ruin this moment," Christine sputtered from behind her teeth, I laughed and looked into my dresser's mirror.
"You still look beautiful," I heard Alex say. "Even though I broke your nose."
Christine and I both turned to the doorway and laughed. Alex wasn't at fault for breaking my nose, if anything it was Katrina's fault for cheating and getting pregnant. I just stood there and watched as he crossed his arms probably wondering what was going on and what we were laughing about.
"I still can't believe you broke her nose, that's actually so funny but I shouldn't be laughing because you broke my best friend's nose," Christine chuckled. "But it's still funny."
I'm not completely sure, but I think this would be one of those moments life is worth living for. Even if it's about my broken nose.
