I stared at myself in the bathroom mirror, my hair was straightened so much that there wasn't a mere bumb in my hair. My makeup was done to a perfect, well the best I was going to get it. My clothes actually were really nice, but I still worried. Were my teeth yellow? Is there a hole in my shirt? I was about to meet my boyfriend's parents for the first time. I was worried mostly about that. He was about to make my week better by introducing me to his parents and baby sister.
Alex knocked on the bathroom door. "You okay? My parents are waiting for you!" He quietly said.
"I'll be down in a second!" I promised, I just needed to get emotionally ready. I have never done this type of thing before in my life, no one ever told me what to do. No matter how many articles I read about this topic I can't shake the feeling that I was going to screw up. I padded down my white blouse and walked out into the dining room.
Mae was already eating some type of chicken strips and she didn't notice me walk in. She was a beautiful toddler, only two by my understanding. She had medium length light brown hair and stunning green eyes along with dark freckles covering most of her face. She was beautiful like Alex, there was no way you couldn't tell they were siblings.
"Hello, you must be Jenna! I'm Mrs. Newman, Brenda if you please," A woman with grayish brown hair introduced herself. She smiled at me.
"Yeah, I am Jenna, ma'am! It's nice to finally meet you," I put out my hand to shake it, I noticed the fact my scars were clear enough to be seen. Crap, I forgot to put on makeup over my arms! But she didn't notice, she shook my hand and continued to smile.
"I'm Mr. Newman, now have a seat doll face!" The man didn't get up, but instead he continued to sit and look up at me. He smiled, though. His hair was jet black unlike the rest of his family, I wondered if he wasn't even related to the rest of the family but I saw his dark freckles so he resembled Mae a little bit.
I sat down in the empty seat between Mae and Alex. I felt awkward, in front of me was a beautiful arrangement of spaghetti and a piece of coconut pie with many forks and spoons surrounding it. I didn't know how to work any of this. I sighed and looked at Alex's hand to see he was using the bigger fork for his spaghetti so I copied him.
"So Jenna, where does your parents work?" His father asked.
I glanced up at Alex and slurped up a piece of spaghetti in my mouth, swallowing shortly after. "My mother died when I was young and my father is in a comma. I live with my Nana and she's a nurse at the hospital here in town," I told them.
"Oh I'm so sorry," Brenda looked awkwardly at Mr. Newman. "What about siblings?"
"Both passed away at young ages," I explained.
"Oh my, your family is broken isn't it?" Brenda ate some spaghetti.
"Not really, people die everyday. It just so happens I lost my family all to death so soon," Brenda stared me down as I spoke.
"It's okay though, you're pretty!" Mae's voice perked up aside me.
"Why, thank you!" I blushed.
"Why has Alex been hiding you?" She asked.
"Uh," I looked at Alex for him to respond.
"Because a beauty like this may destroy the entire world," and sadly he meant it.
