Chapter 8

Winter's POV

I woke up by the sound of people coming in. My heart pounded nervously as I put on my goggles and rearranged myself. Thank the gods that they were not using the back entrance. The only thing I needed to do was stay up until it was late and wait for everyone to be asleep.

"All aboard mates!" Leo said, in a pirate pronunciation and accent. He went to the back part of the ship, to where the stirring wheel is.

"Aye aye captain." Piper followed, checking the view as she went to the side of the ship.

"You guys aren't going to kidnap me and trade me to the other pirates for treasure?" Jason came next, full of fear.

"Of course not, dimwit." Annabeth said, rolling her eyes. "Do you think we're wearing pirate clothes? Do we have a beard or an eye patch or a talking parrot? And the most important thing, do we even look like pirates?"

"There are some pirates that don't have to dress with a lot of accessories." Jason said. Piper gave him a warning look. "I mean. Yeah, you're right. How could I be such a dumb person to think about silly things that don't even-"

"Just shut up." Annabeth walked away, going down the stairs and to her bedroom. It was not far from where I was staying so I went behind the stairs, curious of what she'll say. "Seaweed Brain. I wish you were here." Through the goggles, I saw her sitting on the bed, hugging her knees. I wasn't sure if she was crying because her head was buried on her knees. I felt sympathy for her. I felt like I shouldn't have gone along and sneak into this ship. I felt selfish.

"I'm sorry Annabeth." I muttered, going back to my hiding place.

The bell rang because of Leo. "Guys. Breakfast time! Meet you guys down at the dining place." They all went down, going to eat. Except for Annabeth, who was still cuddling in her room.

"Annabeth, you coming?" Piper asked, looking into her room. She wasn't facing the doorway as she was crying.

"I'll be there in a few seconds." She replied. Her voice sounded raspy.

I saw them having a quiet breakfast. It was not because of hunger but because of sadness. Only Leo was happy. He threw a grape in the air and caught it with his teeth. "Wooh!" He exclaimed after swallowing the munched down grape. "Who's the best?" Everybody was still silent, looking at their food. Jason was still confused, looking afraid of Annabeth. "Oh come on guys. Cheer up! Even just a smile or anything."

"How will I be happy if Seaweed Brain's gone? We put up on this quest? We-" She choked.

Piper looked at her, planning to use charmspeak on her. I remembered that she was claimed last night at the campfire but I wasn't there to witness it because I was preparing for this journey. "It's okay. We'll find-"

"Don't even think about saying anything." Annabeth sighed. "I appreciate all of you trying to cheer me up. Thank you but anything won't work on me. Don't even try to use charmspeak." She said, walking back to her room. Wow, this girl loves Percy a lot.

Again, with the topic of love. If love hurts so much, I don't want to have it.

-----

I watched as they had lunch and dinner until it was time for me to go out. I put my goggles on my forehead. I went to the dining area and to the fridge to eat anything that will fill my stomach. Thanks to my clumsiness, I broke a plate. "Oh great. Who will clean this now?" I muttered to myself.
