I choked. I took a deep breath and started over, "My parents are nonexistent in my life." I looked up at him through my lashes. He looked confused.
I began this whole explanation: My parents were teenagers when they had me and gave me up for adoption for a better life. They knew they wouldn't be able to take care of me. I was adopted when I was two, but my adopted parents got into a bad car crash and died instantly. Soon I was sent back to the orphanage.
I had a hard time fitting in because I was always afraid I would have to move somewhere else away from the people I cared about. I didn't have my love to be my own heartbreak. I was less easy to trust people and put a shield over my emotions.
However, one day I decided to see if I had sisters and brothers. I found my sister, my parents had her five years after me. They kept her and I felt abandoned that I wasn't good enough for them to keep. I was eighteen already and going off to college.
I told my sister not to tell my parents since I would have to leave again. Once I left for college, I lost connection with my sister too. I finished my story and looked at Dylan for any response. I could see the pity in his eyes and I started to regret it.
"Please don't feel pity on me." He glanced at me looked away and looked at me smiling. "I'm sorry I asked," he muttered. We finished dinner and decided to take a walk to the park and playground.
The subject about my parents was forgotten and we went on the swings to talk more. After, he drove me home and we stood outside my door. He leaned in, pressing his lips to mine gently.
"Have a good night," he whispered and left. I walked into my room in a daze of happiness. I sighed happily and walked into my room.
I looked into my mirror and looked at myself. I played with a few strands of
my caramel hair. I looked deep into my hazel eyes with specks of vibrant green. I felt my sun-kissed skin and laughed.
I felt happy for once, in a long time. Dylan liked me! I heard Sara open the door and I went out to greet her.
"How was your night?" I grinned widely, "It was great!"
She looked at me skeptically. "What happened? Why are you looking like a child on Halloween?"
I replayed the night to Sara and told her my feelings for Dylan. She was so happy for me. "I'm so happy. You're finally learning not all guys are like that dick!"
I was hoping she wouldn't mention his name. I didn't need to be reminded of the biggest relationship mistake I've ever made. I'll never forget what he did to me?"
"I'm going out tonight, you coming?" I shook my head, I think I needed a night to rest. She left the apartment with a sparkly purple tight dress. Oh there's my slut of a friend!
"Don't expect me to come home tonight!", she called. "I wasn't", I answered. I chuckled and shut the door. I soon fell into a deep sleep, only to be woken by my cell ringing.
"Hello", I barely choked. "Hi, is this Sabrina Ralic? I'm Dr. Horell and your friend Sara Todd is here. She's in the emergency room, getting the required surgery."
What happened............
