"Why can't you go?"
He shook his head, "It's too much. My mom won't stop drinking. My brother doesnt know about this and Charlotte is gone, she's really gone"
"You don't know you truly miss something until its taken from you", he said. I stroked his back, I could see the pain in his eyes.
I slowly walked him to the car and we both sat in it.
"I know this is hard, but Charlotte's funeral is a day to remember the happy memories with her. To cherish what we did have with her and to keep her spirit alive."
He nodded and began to drive slowly. We arrived at funeral home and saw his mom greeting people by the door.
"Oh Dylan, you're here! Oh look it's our little shrink! Thanks for being here! But we don't need you, I can cope myself. You can leave now. You're service is no longer needed. You weren't close to Charlotte anyway, you barely knew her."

Dylan looked furious and unable to form words.

I was speechless, I didn't know whether to just leave or cry. Everything she said was not true, I liked Dylan for him not his money.
Dylan dragged me inside and apologized countless times for his mother's behavior. I knew it wasn't his fault, he shouldn't be the one apologizing.
His mother said a few words and wobbled off the podium and Dylan began his speech about how much he loved his sister and the happy moments of their childhood.
The funeral passed quickly and Dylan dropped me home. "I'm sorry about my mom. She didn't mean anything by it. I know you don't like me for my money, I-"
I cut him off with a kiss. "It's fine. I'm fine. I know she didn't mean it", I lied. He drove off and I kept thinking about what Martha said.
It's true, I don't fit in. It was a matter of time until Dylan realized that too. I was starting to fall hard for him.
I fell asleep stressed out from my over thinking......
