A new kid is in the same class as Samantha. Somehow, her friends fancy Justin, except her.
Samantha's POV
I woke up on my own from a weird dream. The same dream I had been having since I turned sixteen in June. Every time, I would be running into the woods under a full moon. Once I have gotten deep enough where no one would see me, I would dance barefoot, eyes closed. The animals nearby, didn't seem to be able to see me.
Either way, it was a weird dream.
I looked at the clock next to my bed and realized I was going to be late again.
Damn. Why didn't Annabil wake me up?
I sighed knowingly I couldn't possibly put the blame on her. She had to go out early today. Besides, it was my responsibility to wake up and go to school punctually. I was the one still going to school, not her. I washed up, changed and ran to the door, grabbing my lunch on the counter and my bag.
Normally I would be worried whenever Annabil just told me she was going to be some place I didn't know. Annabil was a grown woman, unlike me. So, I guessed I shouldn't be so concerned about her whereabouts.
The same eerie feeling trembled over me as I rode my bike past the woods. I would go into the woods and figure out if I was just imagining things or if there was indeed someone looking...
Once again, I shrugged the thought out of my head and made it just in time before the gates closed.
Seeing Staerit High School just reminded me of yesterday.
How am I supposed to get things out of Justin for Chartina?
I entered, expecting to get scolded by Miss Peggy, but she wasn't there. Everyone out of their seats, in their own groups of friends. Miss Peggy was probably sick. I made my way towards my seat at the back when I saw Rishana and Justin talking to each other.
Oh, no. Is Rishana telling Justin about that embarrassing moment 4 years ago?
I shook the thought of my head. Justin seemed uncomfortable talking to Rishana. She was probably saying something nasty about his friends. That was what she did to everyone. I didn't think she would every get tired of turning friends against each other.
I walked up to him with a smile, "Hey, Justin."
"Hey, Samantha!" he waved, ignoring Rishana.
"He doesn't want to be with you. Just. Move. On." Rishana snapped.
Knowing Justin wasn't on her side, "Justin, let's just get back to our seats before Rishana starts a fight with us," I sighed. Before Rishana could say anything more, Miss Peggy entered the classroom, panting.
"Sorry, I'm late for class. Now let's get started."
Everyone returned to their seat. Rishana glared at me once more before returning to hers. At least she didn't comment on my hair today.
"I saw you getting uncomfortable when Rishana was talking to you." I started.
"Yeah, she was saying things about Joseph and William."
"Don't be bothered by it. She spreads false rumors just to break friends apart." I assured him.
"Oh, okay, thanks for telling me that."
"No problem."
That was when I remembered about Chartina's interest in Justin. I was going to do this for her, but maybe, just maybe, part of me was curious about Justin. He was new in new town, so no one knew things about him. It might even make me special if he told me things, he hadn't told anyone else, not even his new friends.
I hate starting conversations. Just the thought of it made my hands clammy. I took a deep breath and released some tension I had on my pen.
"Just curious, but did you have anything to do after lunch? I noticed you weren't in class."
I saw something flicker in his eyes, before he turned to me, "Yeah, I have chores to do after lunch."
That questioned bothered him.
I could tell.
I didn't know why, but I didn't want to pressure him. We just got to take it slow. I blocked him from my view and doodled trees in my sketchbook. The same trees I saw in my dreams in the woods. They were different from the trees around the surface of the woods. I couldn't point out what was different.
Something in me whispered to ask Justin about my concurrent dream. What was wrong was with me today? Having so many weird thoughts in one day.
Even when the lunch bell rang, I was still lost in my thoughts. Grabbed my lunch and went to find my friends.
"Samantha! What did he say?!" Chartina shouted.
"He does chores after lunch."
"Really? I saw his butler driving him to school this morning." Meghan retorted.
"Well then I don't know." I took a bite of the toasted sandwich Annabil made for me.
Chartina slumped. "I wish I was in Class R."
"Rishana is in Class R, too." Gabrielle reminded her.
"But Justin."
"You can think of Justin, just don't forget you have your history test next week."
I laughed at Annie, "You know it would be a miracle if I studied."
"Samantha, it isn't a history quiz. It's a test, meaning that it is counted in your final grade," she said, shaking her head.
I swore under my breath, "Guess I have to study over the weekends."
"It isn't hard. Just topic one, right?" Isabella gave me hope.
"It's topic one and two, Izzy." Gabrielle confirmed her with a giggle. "You probably fell asleep when Mrs. Griffin told us what would be on the test."
When the bell rang signaling the end of lunch, Chartina put her hand on my shoulder, "It's okay if you can't get something interesting from Justin." The sadness in her eyes, made me feel useless. Instead of telling her I would try again, I nodded in silence and hugged her before going back to class.
I returned to my seat expecting nothing else to happen today. At least without Justin, there were less events. Or was it just me?
