Samantha's POV

Since Chartina didn't insist on asking Justin questions, I didn't start any conversations. It carried on for a few days. He shouldn't be like me and not say anything. I gave myself a second thought. Maybe he was like me.

I sighed. At this rate, we were going to be just classmates, complete strangers.

Yeah, I'm fine with that. I guess.

But the thought: "Not talking to him. Not starting conversations with him. Not getting to know him." It did something to the heart. Felt like the heart wasn't mine. I should be happy I didn't need to start any conversations.

Sometimes when I tried to say something, nothing came out of my mouth. Better if I just gave up and keep to myself the whole year. I daydreamed in class how convenient it would be for me if I could say whatever I wanted. Just imagine being able to talk to everyone without having clammy and sweat beading on my forehead without having tongue twisters, something I do when I talk for too long. Imagine being able to talk to Justin.

Wait.

What?

Ugh. I needed to stop thinking about Justin. Even hearing his name gives me butterflies.

At the sound of the bell, I jumped and steadied my heart. I reached my lunch and was making my way out of the classroom when someone tapped my shoulder. I jumped again with a small shriek.

Jesus, why am I so jumpy today?

I turned around found myself lost into a familiar pair of dark eyes. It was like I was staring into the eyes of an angel.

"Want to eat lunch with me?"

Damn, the eyes of an angel.

"Uh, Samantha?"

I swore under my breath as I was brought back to reality. I cleared my throat and replied, "Oh, um, just us?" The last word seemed to echo.

"With our friends," he smiled. "Of course, sure," I replied.

He would never ask you ask on a date, Sam. Get a grip on yourself.

"Great," he disheveled his curly hair, "Let's go get our friends then."

"Yeah, sure," I said, hiding my disappointment.

Justin opened his mouth and was about to say something when Chartina shouted from the other side of the hallway. It made me curious as to what Justin had to say to me. I would not ask him during lunch in front of everyone. Afterall, it could be something personal, could it? Either way, I was going to ask him tomorrow during class.

Chartina ran towards me, "Samantha, guess what-"

The sight of Justin stopped her in her tracks. She shut her mouth and her cheeks flushed.

"Oh, hi... Justin." she said trying not to gaze into his eyes.

Justin greeted her and went to get his friends.

"I said Hi to Justin!" Chartina squealed.

"Congrats. Also, we'll be eating lunch with Justin and his friends."

"No way!"

I weaved through the crowded hallway with an excited Chartina and gathered our friends. Once we were all together, I announced to the others that we were eating with Justin.

"You asked or he asked?" "He asked."

"How?" "I don't know."

"Today isn't April Fool's Day, you know." "I know."

Seemed like it was hard for them to accept that Justin was eating lunch with us. I led them to the table, Justin told me, where he would be waiting. The girls hushed their voices as we drew nearer.

Justin sat in the middle on his side with his friends on either side of him. I put my lunch down in front of Justin and sat, while the girls debated who they want to sit in front of. From the corner of my eye, Dexter nudged Justin, making him start something.

I sighed. This was going to be one hell of a lunch.

We ate our lunch in silence. The awkward tension was dragged on for too long. If it continued, I wouldn't be able to take it.

"So," I started and all eyes were on me, "Where did you buy your lunch, Justin?"

"The cook made it," he said as if it was completely normal. I scoffed.

Rich kids these days.

"Which school are you from?" Chartina, next to me, blurted out.

William, across of her, laughed, "I asked him that. He won't tell you."

She looked at Justin with pleading eyes, ignoring William.

I watched as Justin gestured towards William, "Exactly what he said."

"Why you acting so mysterious, Justin?" Gabrielle asked.

A second of silence, then followed by her laugh. "You probably have some weird fetish." At that, everyone broke.

"That is possible, he won't let me enter his house," Dexter confirmed.

"Man, Justin, what are you hiding?"

Justin's shrugging and not answering the answer was definitely, starting more assumptions about him. They continued their logic on why Justin is mysterious as if Justin wasn't listening. I thought he didn't mind, by the way he didn't seem to anger over the craziest assumption about him. I would've rejected those ideas and banished them someone was thinking I was into those things.

The lunch wasn't that bad. It ended in laughters. Such a shame the bell rang just when everyone got heated up in the topic.

"Well I got to go guys. See you tomorrow." Justin waved as he took his bag and jogged to the gates where a black car was waiting for him. They still hadn't stopped talking after Justin had left.

"Off he goes with his newfound hobby," Isabelle said in a storytelling voice.

"Please, have mercy on my stomachache," Annie cried, clutching her stomach.

"Laughing will give you abs."

"Then where are my abs, Will?"

"Your abs don't like you." William patted Dexter on the shoulder. "Go work out with me and Joseph."

I stopped listening to their conversation and bid my farewell to my friends. I yawned feeling exhausted already. Especially after the lunch I had today, which was BBQ pork rice, my favorite, how could I not feel sleepy? I went to class with drooping eyes at the back where the teacher couldn't see me.

Can't wait till I get back home and sleep.
