We go in to the music room and there are instruments everywhere. I probably look like a kid in a candy store.
"Close your mouth. You'll catch flies." Jeff whispers in my ear. I jump and give him a death stare. I walk over to where my friends, well I think they are, were sitting. They were sitting in the front corner of the classroom, which I was totally fine with considering I love music.
"Hello, class." Says the teacher. I look up and my breath hitches. The teacher is Hunter Williams, aka one of my best friends from this summer camp I used to go to. He turns to me and says," I see we have a new student. Would you like to stand up and introduce yourself?" I nod and stand.
"H-Hi, My name is Melody Way." I say.
"Hello Melody, what instruments do you play, if any?" He asks.
"My main instruments are guitar, piano, and viola, but I play many more and I also sing." I say.
"Cool, did you ever happen to go to Dalton Hills Arts Summer Academy?" He asks. I nod. "I thought I recognized you."
I sit back down and see Jeff, Nick, and Amelia staring at me. 'What' I mouth. They shook their heads and focused on Mr. Williams. I turn my head and start listening to him.
"So, we are going to start a new unit today of song writing!" Says Mr. Williams. There were many groans, but there were many more cheers. "Now get in to groups of at least two and start writing."
Amelia, Jeff, Nick, Maz, Marie, Janelle, and I get into a group and figure out who's going to write what.
"Oh, and you will perform your song at th end of the semester, so you have until Christmas break to write a song or songs to perform." Mr. Williams announces. I nod in understanding and turn back to the group. By the end of the period, we all find out who is the best at what. Maz and Marie can play violin, Jeff is an amazing bassist, Amelia is as about as good on guitar as Frank and Ray, Janelle can play piano like nobody's business, Nick is an amazing drummer, and I can apparently write amazing lyrics and sing. The bell rings and we all head to our lockers, which happen to be by each other.
"We should hang out this weekend and maybe get a little writing done for music." Jeff says.
"Yeah, we could hang out at my house. I'm sure my parents won't mind." I say. They all nod and we start heading outside. We get outside and I immediately see dad. "My dad's here. Bye." I head over to dad's car and sit in the passenger seat.
"Hey Ms. Artsy. Anything interesting happen today?" He asks.
"I guess so. I mean I made friends and we're hanging out this weekend, but that's about it." I say.
"So, was school as bad as you build it up to be?"
"No, not quite. Oh and can I hangout with my friends at our house this weekend?"
"Sure."
I smile. For once in my life, my future is looking bright.
