"Carry on my wayward son!" I sang, "there'll be peace when you are done!"
"Shut up," one of the cat heads growled at me.
"Lay your weary head to rest!"
"Be quiet!" the other head snapped.
"Don't you cry no more."
"Silence!" both heads screeched in unison. I opened my eyes - which had been shut for my fabulous solo - and looked around. I appeared to be in a dark room that was ringed with blue fire at the edges. It wasn't like anywhere I'd been before when I died so I was curious as to what was going on.
"Finally," the brown one said. "You've gone quiet."
Actually I was singing the instrumental in my head and just waiting for the right time to come in next but I wasn't going to tell the cat/cats that.
"I'm Melody," the brown one meowed.
"And I'm Pip," the blonde one said.
"You talk," I stated.
"Yes, we do," the cats said in sync.
"Why are you a cat?" I questioned.
"Why not?" was the reply.
"Why?" I pressed, tapping the beat on my leg.
"Are you a three year old or something?" Pip quizzed. "You're acting like one, saying 'why' all the time."
"As a cat you have to only be about three so shut up," I retorted.
"Yeah but-" Melody began but I interrupted.
"No buts," I said. "You're one cat with two heads, not two arses." I grinned at my own stupidity and got two sets of eye rolls in return.
"He's really immature," Pip sighed. "Why did we choose him?"
"Because he's a demon," Melody said.
"So?"
"He could be helpful."
"I am helpful," I butted in. "I'm very helpful, useful and kind."
"You're a demon," Pip said with narrowed eyes.
"And? That doesn't make me any worse of a person."
"You're evil and sadistic with no emotions!" Melody squeaked.
"But I can still be helpful, I can fake being nice to people in social situations!" I shot back.
"But you don't fake being nice to Sam," Pip said slyly.
"It's quite obvious you two have a thing," Melody continued.
"And so we're here to stir things up a bit," Pip said with the cat version of an evil grin.
"Ah!" I sang loudly, making the cat jump. "Once I rose above the noise and confusion-"
"Stop it!"
"-Just to get a glimpse behind this illusion-"
"Be quiet!"
"-I was soaring ever higher!"
"We were talking!"
"But I flew too high," I sang. I stood up dramatically and almost fell over, the blood rushing from my head immediately. I sank back down again, still singing.
"Though my eyes could see-"
"Stop," Pip moaned.
"-I was still a blind man-"
"Seriously, be quiet," Melody complained.
"-Though my mind could think-"
"Shaade-"
"-I still was a mad man-"
"We can agree with that," Pip muttered.
"-I hear the voices when I'm dreaming-"
"That's obvious."
"-I can hear them say!" I took a deep breath and belted out the chorus.
"Carry on my wayward son! There'll be peace when you are done! Lay your weary head to rest! Don't you cry no more."
"Stop it!"
"Masquerading as a man with a reason-"
"You're a demon, not a man."
"-My charade is the event of the season-"
"Stop. Now."
"-And if I claim to be a wise man, well-"
"You'll be lying."
"-It surely means that I don't know."
"Are you being quiet now?" was asked but I was only taking a breath.
"On a stormy sea of moving emotion-"
"Make him stop, Pip!"
"-Tossed about like I'm a ship on the ocean-"
"I'm trying, Melody!"
"-I set a course for winds of fortune-"
"Be quiet, Shaade, or we'll scratch you."
"But I hear the voices say!"
"Don't you dare," Melody and Pip shouted at once and I finally went quiet, albeit humming the tune under my breath.
"As we were saying," Melody said, a little calmer.
"We're here to shake things up and ruin your life," Pip said with a now sweet smile.
"When you go back to Mikachi you'll have swapped bodies with someone else," Melody said mischievously.
"In fact, you'll all have swapped around," Pip added.
"Nova should be back by now," Melody said to the other head. "Should we send him back to the human world now?"
"Yes," Pip said with a nod. The blue flames grew taller until they swallowed me up and I sighed, coldness pinching my fingers and freezing my toes until I was stood back in the first aid room. Spice looked a little bit confused but shrugged it off, turning to me on the floor. It was only when I realised I was on the floor did it hit me. My mind was in someone else's body and that meant that someone was very confused at being suddenly sat on the floor. Fortunately everyone looked a little bit dazed and I took the opportunity to glance around. Everything was a lot lower down than usual and I figured I must be taller. That wasn't hard as pretty much everyone was taller than me. I was stronger, too, I noticed, and so I had to be either Sam or Dean. Sorry Nova, but the muscles just weren't as visible on you.
As I have a 0.5 second memory I couldn't remember who was wearing what and I was still stumped on the Sam-or-Dean front. Spice had stopped talking and was looking around in bewilderment until I heard 'Nova' speak.
"What's going on? Why am I a chick?"
"Wait, why am I on the floor?" 'I' said.
"How did I get here?" 'Dean' said in confusion.
"I hate those cats," 'Sam' said. Ah. I'd become the Moose.
