The next day came far too quickly and with it came a fresh wave of doubt. Something was wrong, something wasn't right. I'd forgotten something. But what?
"Good morning, sunshine," Gabriel sang, throwing open my curtains and then jumping on top of me. I knew by that point that fighting him was useless and simply rolled over, burying my head in the pillow until I couldn't hear him singing.
"The others will hear you," I said at last when he appeared to be singing a long, long medley of songs. Gabriel simply winked and continued belting out Queen, violently air-guitaring and head-banging the entire time.
"It's almost as if you want to be tackled to the floor," I commented, leaping off the bed and grabbing him around the waist, knocking the archangel down. He yelped in shock and then laughed, teleporting out of my grasp and sitting on me.
"Nice try," he laughed.
"Cheater!" I declared.
"Hey, you jumped me," he said innocently.
"And now you're sat on me, what's your point?" I retorted just as footsteps sounded down the hall. Gabriel vanished and I pushed myself up, muttering angrily.
"I heard a thud," Sam said, poking his head around the door. "Is everything okay?"
"I fell out of bed," I lied.
"Your bed's on the opposite side of the room," Dean stated, sticking his head under Sam's arm with a toothbrush in his mouth. "How did you get there if you fell?"
"Dramatically," I replied.
"Of course," Dean muttered, his head retreating.
"Shaade, are you okay?" Sam asked, stepping into the room.
"I'm fine," I said, forcing cheeriness into my voice. "Just a little bit bruised."
"You've been talking to yourself a lot," Sam said in concern. "We were just wondering...."
"Wondering what?" I said, raising an eyebrow slowly.
"Nothing," Sam said. He flashed a small smile and then ducked out of the room.
"Gabriel," I growled quietly. The archangel appeared and smiled.
"Yes, Shaade?" he said.
"You need to start putting silencing charms or something on the doors," I muttered.
"Can't hear you," Gabriel shouted, cupping a hand over his ear. I shot him a glare and he laughed, clicking his fingers and making my suit magically adjust itself. To irritate me he rolled down my sleeves and when I tried to roll them back up he held them in place, a wicked glint in his eyes.
"You gotta look smart," he said.
"Why?" I asked suspiciously.
"There might be a visitor dropping into school today."
"Everyone knows what you look like," I said. "And you're not bringing Lucifer."
"Remember those Government people who threatened to take Sam and Dean?" Gabriel said. "Well, they shortened their deadline. They're coming for you today."
"And you couldn't tell me sooner?" I yelled, bringing Sam, Dean and Cas running into the room. I didn't care and something in my stubborn mindset was preventing Gabriel from turning invisible.
"What's going on?" Sam said just as Dean said "Who's this?"
"Gabriel," Cas said.
"Hello, Cassie," Gabriel said, shooting a grin in Cas' direction. "Long time no see. How are you and your little boyfriend Deano holding up? Sam, repeated any Tuesdays recently?"
"Wait, Gabriel?" Sam and Dean frowned in unison.
"It's a good thing that me being here has already screwed up the Supernatural timeline or things would be thrown largely off balance by this discovery," I said to myself.
"This is archangel Gabriel," Castiel introduced.
"That's a trickster," Sam stated.
"We killed you!" Dean exclaimed.
"You see, that's what you said the first time but I came back," Gabriel said with a smile. "So yeah, not dead." He waved. "But you guys soon will be."
"What do you mean?" Sam asked while Dean silently seethed that Gabriel was alive.
"The Government are coming to Take you all today," Gabriel said cheerfully. "Now you might want to get to school, you're running late. Also congratulations on getting fired and wiping everyone's memories, Mr Thomas." He grinned and Sam scowled. That was another thing I forgot to mention. Someone (who totally wasn't me or Gabriel) locked 'Mr Thomas' in a storeroom while playing 'Never Gonna Give You Up' from the speakers until he got so enraged he started shouting and swearing at the top of his lungs. He was fired within seconds.
The memory-wipe was a little bit harder, however. It turns out Castiel had some powers he wasn't supposed to use but he did so anyway and everything was fine.
"You're not being very specific," Sam said at last. "Why are They coming?"
"They shortened the deadline," Gabriel shrugged.
"And how do you know this?"
"I can't sit in the back of Shaade's class every day, it gets boring after a while," Gabriel said. "So I go out walking and spy on top Government officials. You never know when you might need the information and it turns out you do need the information." He smiled cunningly. "See, I am useful."
"No you're not," I said as Dean started yelling things and Sam yelled to try and calm him down/shut him up. Castiel attempted to join the shouting match and got yelled at and so he started being bluntly sassy and grumpy. Gabriel simply smiled at the chaos he had caused, blind to my attempts to attract his attention until I punched him on the shoulder forcefully, aiming it right so that I hit his wing slightly.
"Ow!" the archangel cried, rubbing his arm. "Mind what you're punching, mortal."
"I am actually going to be late for my job," I pointed out. "Teleport me, or fly, or whatever."
"What about breakfast?" Gabriel said with wide eyes.
"You can make some pancakes up or something but I need to get there," I said.
"Since when did you care about your job?" Gabriel asked, raising an eyebrow inquiringly.
"Since innocent people - kids - were at risk of getting hurt," I said. "The Government will stop at nothing to get me and I won't let them get me."
"I think they just plan on shooting you," Gabriel said offhandly. "They're only really interested in Sam and Dean."
"And guess who they'll go after next? Me and Cas, Gabe, and you too."
"Oh, so it's Gabe, is it?" Dean shouted. "A little bit informal, Shaade."
"For God's sake, Dean, I can talk to people!" I roared. I was fed up with the shouting and people assuming things and for roughly the third time I snapped. "I have my own damn life! You're not even real, you two Winchesters, you're fictional! You just exist here because of some sort of fluke! So shut the hell up because I can tell everyone in this room when they're next going to die." My eyes were cold as I glared around at the people I would have been happy to call friends minutes ago.
"Now that shut you up," Gabriel said quietly.
"You, too," I snarled, spinning around to face the archangel. "I am fed up with you messing about. If I'm not needed then fine. Someone call the school, I'm not going in." With that final comment I snapped my fingers and vanished, leaving the loud, angry mess behind.
