"So, Mabel," Damien was saying. His arm was around me as we walked outside during lunch, sharing a bag of doritoes. "The proms coming up soon."
I barely stopped the smile which was inching it's way up my lips. "Yeah," I said calmly. The fact was, I already had a dress made and everything.
"You know I'm not really the type to get excited about this sort of thing, but I feel like I should do something to make you happy. Would you like to go to prom with me?"
I smile up at Damian. I opened my mouth to say yes, when I spotted Dipper eating his lunch alone under a tree, being pestered by some of our classmates. "Hold the ketchup," I said. I slipped out of Damian's arm and marched over to the bullies. "Hey!" I said. "Back off my bro or you'll be hearing from me!"
The bullies rolled their eyes, but backed off. I turned to Dipper. He was glaring down at his salad, stabbing at it. "Don't let them get to your head, bro-bro," I said.
"I don't need your help, Mabel," Dipper grumbled. I sighed. Damian was walking over to us. "Is their a problem?" He asked.
"Yes," I said the same time Dipper said, "No."
I sighed, exasperated. "My dear brother has suffered a mental trama called a break-up a few days ago," I said to Damian. Dipper sighed. "Mabel-"
"So now, he's a loner who sits here and mopes around. I mean, it was his first real girlfriend, but still. He'll get over it."
"Mabel," Dipper growled at her.
"And that was right before he was going to ask her to prom! The horror, right? And now she's dating Jack, starting a week ago. The little blond backstabber totally cheated on him!"
Dipper bit his lip. "Mabel, please-"
"So now," I concluded. "It's my job to find someone else for him to date."
"Maybe I enjoy being alone," Dipper murmured.
I stopped, realizing I was hurting his feelings. "Oh. I'm sorry, Dipping Sauce. I didn't mean to-"
Dipper shook his head. "It's fine. I'm find. We're all just...fine."
Damian was awkwardly standing to the side this his hands in his pockets, not sure how to respond. "Well," I said to Dipper. "If you ever need anything, just talk to me, okay?"
Dipper didn't answer.
I sighed and walked over to Damian, taking his hand. "He can be a little hard to talk to at times."
Damian nodded. "So..." he said awkwardly. "About the prom..."
I smiled up at him sadly. "Sorry Damian, but unless I can find a date for my brother, he'll have to come with us. Is that okay with you?"
Damian smiled. "As long as we can have a couple dances, just the two of us."
I smiled. "Of course."

I knocked on Dipper's door. "Go away." He grumbled, which I took as a nice come in. I opened the door and saw Dipper curled up on his bed. "I thought you were doing homework."
"I was," Dipper grumbled, clearly annoyed I was in here.
I jumped onto his bed. "You okay?"
Dipper shot me a glare. "What kind of question's that?"
My small smile faded. "Oh, yeah." Dipper was used to cheering me up after a breakup, not the other way around. "Sorry."
Dipper sighed. "I was an idiot to think she was actually into me."
