Merryn's POV
The rain.
Don't you just hate it? It's annoying coldness? Well even if you don't. I do.
With a passion.
If you haven't already guessed yet, I'm walking in the rain. Now I really regret choosing not to take the bus. If only I had remembered to take my penny board to school with me, then I could be at the orphanage right now; sitting in my warm room and painting, wrapped up in my duvet like a burrito.
Yum, burrito.
Damn it! Now I'm hungry! Ugh.
I start to slow down my pace, knowing that there's no point in walking any faster. I'm already soaked through. I swear, nobody better be in the living room when I get in. I want it to myself, just to play Minecraft on the Xbox. Sighing, I make a turn onto the next block. Four blocks down, three to go. As I cross the street, a car speeds past me and a tsunami of water is thrown over me. Damn puddles. Now I'm even more cold and wet!
I huff in annoyance but continue walking. A few minutes later, I feel like I'm being followed, so I turn around. Bad idea.
Slowly trailing behind me is a black Jaguar Land Rover. Discovery to be exact. But that's not the bad thing about it. The bad thing is the person who's driving it.
Luke.
My heart rate picks up, bringing back some flashbacks. This has happened before, a year ago. I was walking home in the rain, like today, and he pulled over and took me home. Or he intended. Instead, he took me somewhere else and dropped me off in the middle on nowhere, and then just drove off. He left me stranded on a deserted road. So I walked back the way we come, knowing that there was a small village that he drove through. From then on I had to call Ms Jackie and wait for her to get to where I was.
So yeah. That's that.
I turn back round and start speed walking down the street, keeping my head down. Hearing the sound of tires moving just makes me walk faster and faster, not looking back.
Suddenly, someone calls my name, "Merryn!"
Coming to a halt, I turn back around and notice Luke walking up to me with a big blue umbrella. As he gets closer, I take a couple steps back, and look in his eyes. When his eyes meet mine for the second time today, he smiles once again.
What's wrong with this kid?!
"Want me to drop you home?" He wonders, covering me with his umbrella once he stand in front of me.
"N-no," I stutter.
"Why not? Come on, you look freezing and it's pissing it down out here!" He states, raising his voice a little. I flinch at his tone and he immediately looks guilty, "Sorry, I just- I just thought you'd might want to sit in a warm car instead."
Holy shit! Did the biggest bad boy of the school just apologize?
"I guess so, yeah," He laughs.
My eyes widen and my voice only comes out as a whisper, "D-did I say that out loud?"
"Yes, you did."
"O-oh," I say. Not knowing what to do or say, I turn away and start walking.
"Wait!" He shouts, pulling on my shoulder.
"Come and get in the car, please?" He says.
"W-why should I? Last t-time it didn't end well," I state, reminding him of the last car ride we shared.
