Merryn's POV
My vision becomes blurry as tears well up in my eyes. My best friend is awake and out of his coma. The doctors told me at first that he may not survive due to the amount of blood he lost. But he's awake now, it's a miracle!
"F-Fred..?" I stutter while staring into those ocean blue eyes I've missed.
"Merryn," He mimics.
"A-are you r-really awake?" I question with urgency. He nods his head and that's when the tears start draining from my eyes.
I pounce on him and engulf him into a hug, tightly holding him while he rocks us both back and forth, "Shh Merryn, Shh. It's okay. I'm awake. I'm here and I'm not going to leave you again."
I cry happy tears and move so that I'm sat on his lap.
"I'm so so s-sorry Fred. This is all my f-fault!"
"Don't say that Merryn, it wasn't your fault," He states while playing with my hands.
"B-but it is!" I admit, "If I never had got drunk at that party then I wouldn't have asked you to come and pick me up! If I had just stayed sober then everything would be different... Fred you've missed 5 months of your life. Yes it may not seem like much but it really is. The gangs missed you, your moms missed you, Jerry's missed you and I've missed you. And you've missed so much too."
Looking down at our intertwined hands just makes my now silent tears fall faster. I've really missed him. I really have...
"Merryn Christmas?" He questions, using the really weird nickname he gave me last Christmas. I look after from out hands and into his eyes with a light smile, "Yeah?"
"Stop blaming yourself."
"But-" He cuts me off, "Yes Merryn I know what you are going to say, but listen to me. It's not your fault. When I came to pick you up that night I knew the consequences that I'd be facing. After all it was a party and obviously there were drunk people driving. Besides, you were in the same car as me which means you weren't driving another car which means that you didn't cause this accident. I just wasn't careful enough."
My tears stop as I realise that what he's saying is true. I'll still blame this accident on myself as I was the cause but I'll stop blaming myself for Fred.
"Okay," I say.
"Okay..?" He wonders.
"Yes, okay. I believe what you're saying." I state, smiling.
He smiles back and pulls me into a hug, I wrap my arms around his neck and he wraps his arms around my waist. I start fiddling with the back of his hospital gown as he plays with my long hair.
"I missed you," He mumbles.
"I missed you too," I smile into his neck.
"Fredrick!" Someone screams, causing me to jump away from Fred.
I turn towards the door and notice Fred's mom standing there with a bunch of flowers on the floor.
"Oh my baby, you're awake!" She exclaims, running over towards him and engulfing him into a hug, just like I had done.
"Mom," Fred smiles.
"Baby don't scare me like that! I thought you'd never wake up! And after what happened to you father I just-"
"Mom it's fine. I'm fine. I won't end up like dad," Fred says, hugging his mother back.
"When did you wake up? Have you told the doctors? Have you eaten? Do you need some water? How do you feel? Do I need to-" His mother gets cut off by Fred once again.
