Overdue (Stevie & Ally)

Chapter 2 (part 2)

(Ally's POV still)

We got to the middle of the court where the coach was talking to some of the girls already. Me and Stevie walk up together and he looks up from talking. "Ally! So glad you could make it." I say,"Glad to be here." My coach also used to be my 6th grade teacher and coach then, but changed a few years ago to high school. He says,"So today we are doing the basics ladies, warm up lap around the gym first, then crunches and push-ups. Go put your stuff down and run!" Me and Stevie quickly walked over to the bench and threw our stuff down. Stevie took off jogging, faster than any of the girls. I was laughing and jogging, thinking she's going to waste her energy, but boy was I wrong.
She finished the lap in about a minute, then it took her maybe 30 seconds for push-ups and crunches. I looked at her and she gave me a laugh, and I just shook my head.

(Stevie's POV)

Ally looks at me and I laugh. She shakes her head and I just laugh. I don't think anyone expected me to finish so quickly, or have any energy left. I then hear from the back of the gym,"Sorry I'm late, got held up Mr. James." I know that voice, it's Sarah. I don't want to turn around and look at her, it's too painful, and everyone is already staring at me and her, but I can't help but look at Ally. She looks extremely concerned, like I'm her girlfriend or something. I turn around and see her walking by me, and I say,"I need to talk to you." She thinks for a second, and then says,"Okay, about what?" I shout to the coach, Mr. James,"I'm going to get water!" He looks at his clipboard and shouts,"Okay!" I look at Sarah and she walks by my side. As we make our way to the benches she says,"What's up?" I hiss,"Why are you here?" She says,"Nice to see you too Stevie." I say,"You know you don't play for the school!" She laughs and says,"Well the team that I was on got a new coach, and so I quit." I roll my eyes and say,"Look Sarah, I don't want any drama between us, but do not get in my way." She laughs and says,"Ooh someone's a little feisty huh? Don't worry Stevie, it's the last thing I want to happen, in fact, we should just try and act like actual teammates?" She puts her arm on my shoulder, and I say,"Alright... but everyone is still staring at us." Sarah looks around and says,"Yeah... And it's unbelievably quiet." I laugh and say,"It's because they are waiting for something to happen." She stands from the bench and turns around at me, putting her hand out. She says,"Care to join me for the tryouts now?" I take her hand, not wanting to look stupid, and say,"Yeah. But Sarah, remember, we broke up." She says,"Yes I'm quite aware of that." I say,"Then why are we still holding hands?" She says,"I like your hand. But I'll let go fine." We both stare into each other's eyes, and I let go of her hand. We walk back to the middle of the court and I stretch and Sarah does her warm up lap.

(Group's POV)
Cammie says quietly,"What is Sarah doing here?" Danny says,"For tryouts." Chrissy says,"Ooh look at Stevie!" Stevie is frozen solid, just standing there. Moonshine says,"Ooh shit is gonna go down." Taylor asks,"Maybe it won't be that bad?" Ali scoffs and says,"Are kidding me? After what happened last year, oh there's gonna be drama." Amanda says,"What is Stevie doing?" Courtney gasps and says,"SHES TALKING TO HER." As this point, Stevie is sitting down on the bench with Sarah and they are talking. Shannon says,"Holy shit look at Ally too." Ally looks mad as hell, and protective, like jealous and mad. She is staring at Stevie and Sarah, waiting for them to do something it seems. Steph asks,"DID SHE JUST EXTEND HER HAND?" They are all silently saying,"Don't take it Stevie." But she does. Bria says,"Oh shit." Amanda laughs and says,"God damn this is an interesting tryout." Stevie then let's go of Sarah's hand, and the two walk back to the middle of the gym and finish their warm up activities. Danny whispers,"What do you think happened?" Cammie says,"I think maybe unfinished love."

(Ally's POV)

What the hell was Sarah doing here?! And Stevie talking to her, then grabbing her hand? What the hell was going on? I then hear Mr. James yell,"Ally! Come on! We are starting!" I must've zoned out because everyone is waiting for me. Stevie and Sarah and standing next to each other, and I can't help but feel so protective over her, like she's mine or something. I'm thinking about Sarah and Stevie too much and I hear the coach say,"So, y'all ready? Go!" I snap out of it again and realize everyone is grabbing a basketball. I jog over and get one too, watching everyone first to see what we are doing. I get in line and realize we're doing 3 pointers, which are TOO easy for me. I get up in line and shoot, making it perfectly go in, then Stevie does the same. We do this for about 10 minutes then he blows the whistle and shouts,"Guards go!" In my line, Sarah steps out of line and goes in front of the net, and I'm up first. I move around her and shoot, but not accurately. She says,"This here is my court." I just give her a death stare, and get the ball. Shannon shouts,"Come on Ally!" I laugh and jog back into the line.
