I walked out into the kitchen to see Chris getting out supplies for making pancakes. "Can I help?" I asked smiling.
"Sure" he said as I walked over by his side. I felt home sick. I missed my mom. I needed to be the brave little girl my mom has always wanted me to be. I felt tears in my eyes but I quickly blinked making sure that Chris didn't see them. I didn't want to seem weak. I flipped a pancake a little to hard and it ended up on the ceiling. Me and Chris both looked up. The pancake fell down onto Chris's face making me laugh. He took the pancake off his face and took a bite of it.
"Not bad" he said before taking another bite. I laughed a little bit more making him smile, "you're just like your mother. You have her laugh." I couldn't help but let a tear slide down my cheek at the mention of my mother. Chris pulled me into a hug that was comforting. I wrapped my arms around him as he rested his head on top of mine. He reminded me so much of my father. He rubbed my back soothingly. Soon I felt his chest shake a little bit. He was crying. I looked up at him to see a tear roll down his cheek. He bit his lip trying to contain his salty tears. I broke down a little bit and buried my face deep in his chest.
"Thank you" I choked out barely above a whisper.
"For what?" He asked.
"I feel stupid for not liking you in the beginning. Thank you for loving my mom. Thank you for actually being there" I said calmly trying to dry my tears. He rubbed my back again.
"Let's eat some breakfast" he said getting two plates from the cabinet. I hope this is a good breakfast.
