Chapter Six
Remy barely made the drive home. Sleep was tugging at his mind and making his eyelids heavy. When he pulled into the driveway, he didn’t even park his truck in the garage. He led Onika into the house, nodded a greeting to Colby and Cora, and trudged up to his room. He kicked off his shoes and socks, and barely slipped his shirt over his head before crashing into his bed. He was asleep before his head hit the pillow.
Colby stood in the kitchen, washing dishes with Cora. They laughed, enjoying each other’s company. The door opened and he watched Remy come in the door and barely make it up the stairs. Colby watched after him in confusion. He turned his attention back to the woman that followed Remy in. Colby looked her over. She had long dark red hair, her skin was a soft tan color, and then his eyes locked with hers. Other than Mara, he had never known someone to have the same eye color of him. His brows pulled together in thought as he realized who was standing in front of him. He dropped the plate that was in his hand and closed the space between the woman and himself in a few strides. He took her into his arms and hugged her tightly. “Mom...” His voice was barely above a whisper.
Onika watched her son across the room. He watched after Remy with concern, it did her heart good to see how much he cared for Remy. She noticed how tall he was and she smiled. He looked like his father. Tall and lean, but strong. She could see the muscles all over him under his shirt. She smiled at him once his eyes locked with hers, she wondered how long it would take him to realize who she was. He did once she smiled at him. He crossed the room with ease and wrapped her up in his arms. She wrapped her arms around his midsection. Her eyes began to well with tears when he whispered her title. “Hi Colby..”
Colby held her away from him slightly, his hands on her shoulders. He pulled her into a tight hug again and then ushered her toward the kitchen. “Cora and I were just finishing a late lunch. Are you hungry, mom?” He looked toward her, “Would you like something to drink?”
Onika smiled as she sat down at the island bar in the kitchen. She shook her head. “I’m alright for now, why don’t you introduce me to your beautiful mate?” She smiled at the girl as a blush covered her cheeks.
Colby chuckled lightly, “Right. Mom, this is Cora; Cora, this is my mom, Onika.” He gestured a hand between them as he said names. Cora smiled and gave a small wave.

Two days had past since Remy had brought Onika to their house, and for two days Remy had slept. Colby padded softly down the stairs and met his mom and Cora in the sunroom. His brows were pulled together in thought and Onika noticed he seemed bothered. He sat down next to Cora and out of habit, automatically put his arm around her on the back of the love seat.
“Colby, what is bothering you?” Onika prodded her son. Colby shook his head.
“Something’s not right. Mara’s link with me is there, but she’s been asleep since Remy brought you here. And he doesn’t usually ever sleep this much. Something’s wrong...” Colby looked to his mom then. Onika shook her head. She stood up and started for the stairs. “Mom, what are you doing?”
She paused, “We have to take him into Mara,” She turned around to face him, “Their bodies are having this effect from being away from their mates for so long.. and to my understanding, because Mara somewhat denied Remy.” Colby looked taken aback but followed his mom up the stairs. Onika entered Remy’s room. It was dark but her eyes adjusted easily. She saw him sprawled over his bed, murmuring something in his sleep. She sat next to him on the bed and placed her hand on his arm. “Remington...” She said soothingly, “Remy, you need to wake up please..” Remy groaned and turned away from them. “Remy, you have to wake up. We need to go to town and you have to come with. We’re going to see Mara.” Remy’s breathing started to change. They could tell he was starting to wake up. He rolled toward the group in his room and looked at them; one eye open, one eye closed.
