Onika smiled as she knew her point and gotten across. "Go get some sleep you two; you both still look tired from being away from one another. I'll make myself comfy on the couch." Mara stood and hugged her mother. Remy followed suit, and also gave Onika a hug. "Thank you." He whispered into her ear. Onika smiled at him and patted his shoulder.
Remy turned to see Mara walking back toward her room. He followed her back down the hallway. He stopped at the bathroom, relieved himself and washed his face. He finished the few strides to her room and closed the door behind him. Mara stood in the middle of the room, fiddling with her fingers. When she heard the door close, she looked up at Remy, "Remy, look, I am so sorry for what I had done. I didn't-"
Remy didn't allow her to finish. He closed the space between them, cupped her chin in his fingers, and pressed his lips to hers. She pulled back first but didn't step away from him. He moved his hand, his fingertips brushing along her face until he laid his hand to rest on her neck. He leaned his forehead onto hers and let out a deep breath. "Mara, I don't care about your baggage. I'll learn to deal with it. All I want is you, all of you; right now and forever, Mara. You're mine and nothing will change my feelings for you." He pulled back then and looked into her eyes. He searched the turquoise depths. He ran his hand over her head, smoothing a few loose strands of her hair down. “I mean every bit of that, Mara.” Mara closed her eyes at the comfort Remy’s words and hands gave her. She reached her arms up and wrapped them around his neck. She pulled him close to her and nuzzled her nose into his neck. With his right hand on her neck and his left hand resting on her shoulder, he slid his left hand down her back until it rested in the small of her back. He pulled her body against his and buried his nose in her hair. A low growl of pleasure rumbled in Remy’s chest, involuntary; his wolf was pleased with having their mate in their arms.
Mara pulled away slightly. She knew she had found her mate but she wasn’t ready to take the next step in the mating process. She knew she couldn't make Remy leave like she had before but she wasn't ready to be fully committed to Remington Lux. She shook her head lightly as she stepped away from Remy more. He looked down at her with confusion wrote all over his face. "Remy, I know I can't make you leave, and I don't want to; but I'm not ready to fully mate yet... You may be okay with all my baggage but me... I-I'm not... I have a lot I have to work out with myself. " Mara looked up to him then and saw his face drop but a look of understanding in his eye. He nodded a few times.
He motioned toward the bed, "Let's go to sleep..." Mara nodded and crawled into the bed. Remy pulled the blanket over her and laid, on his side, next to her. He closed his eyes then. She rolled toward him, her fingers pushing his shaggy copper hair out of his eyes.
"Remy..?"
"Mm?"
"Are you mad at me?" She whispered.
Remy opened one eye and looked at Mara. He shook his head and he sighed. "I couldn't ever be mad at you," he responded. He closed his eye and draped his arm over her waist without thought. He opened his eyes quickly then. "Is this okay?" He whispered.
She laid her head down, got comfy, and nodded. She closed her eyes and as she began to drift to sleep, she felt Remy's lips brush over her forehead.
*********
Colby followed Cora down the stairs, watching her hips sway with each step. He grinned as they reached the last steps; he reached down, grabbed her by the waist, and twirled her around. She squealed and giggled, gripping onto his arms. He sat her gently on her feet, pulled her hips against his, and leaned his head against hers. She slid her hands from where they rested on his shoulders to his neck. She held his face in her hands and pulled his lips to hers. She kissed him long, hard, and sweet. Cora grabbed a hold of Colby's bottom lip between her teeth gently and giggled as she looked up at him from under her long eyelashes. Colby gently walked her back until her back rested against the side of the suburban. His hands slid from her hips to grip her bottom. He grinned at his action and lifted her up. Cora naturally wrapped her ankles around him, and pushed her fingers through his black hair. He pressed his lips to hers. He pulled back and looked into her green hazel eyes.
He grinned, “I love you so much Cora.” He sat her down and opened her door to the SUV. He helped her crawl up into the seat. She smiled at him, “I love you, Colby.” She responded, emphasizing when she said you. He placed a kiss on her cheek and closed her door. He walked around the vehicle, opened his door, and pulled himself in. He started the car, placed it in reverse, and then placed his right hand on Cora’s thigh. He glanced out the back window and eased the car out of the parking spot in front of the building. He used his one hand to shift the car into drive and steer the car toward their home. Colby stole a quick glance at Cora, her gaze out the window watching the scenery go by. He grinned as he turned his eyes back to the road. He thought back on the time him and Cora had been together. Somehow, Cora’s wolf had matured enough at seventeen for her to be able to find her Mate. Cora and he were in the same pack, and he had the feeling it was going to be her he was Mated to. Absent-mindedly, he rubbed her leg as he thought of the past three years. Once she turned eighteen and they Mated, everyone had expected her wolf to go into heat and the pair of them would already be parents; with it being normal to be young parents depending on the age you were when you found your mate. But she hadn’t yet. They’ve gone to the doctor for it and there’s nothing wrong with Cora, the doctor just called her a ‘late bloomer’. So the couple have been patiently waiting for the time to come.
Colby pulled the large vehicle into the garage and shifted it into park. Cora quickly got out and walked into the house. He had noticed she had become fidgety when they were getting closer to home. Colby looked after her confused but he took the given time to get her surprise birthday present out. He walked to the garage toward the back of the property. He opened the door, flipped the lights on, and smiled as the bright blue car entered his sight. He pulled the key out of his pocket and drove it around to the front of the house. Tomorrow is Cora’s twentieth birthday and he bought her a brand new Chevrolet Impala to surprise her with. He twirled the key ring around his finger as he walked in. “Cora? Cora! Come here, I have a surprise for you.” He waited for her answer. His brows creased as he listened for her. He heard water running up stairs. He placed the keys on the counter and jogged up the stairs, taking them two at a time easily. He walked up to the en suite bathroom in their room and rapped on the door with the tips of his fingers. “Cora?” He said in a light voice. The door opened and a new smell drowned his senses.
“Colby, something’s wrong... I’m so uncomfortable,” Cora whined.
A deep growl rumbled in his chest. He closed the space between he and Cora. He crushed his lips to her neck on his mark, then kissing her multiple times before tracing kisses up to her lips. Cora melted into him. Colby pulled away while he still had some rationalization in his brain. “Cora...” he breathed, “It’s happening, you’re in heat...”
