Was this the chance Soph was talking about? I can’t say I wasn’t exited to see the boys again but on the other side I knew if Soph found out about this (and she would, because I was going to tell her) she would make me talk to Zayn.

She came through the door the minute I hung up the phone.

“Who was this?” She asked, a curious tone in her voice.

“Just a friend of mine." I tried to avoid further questions but did a terrible job with it.

“Hmmm, I was just wondering because when I walked in on you, you were beaming. What’s the deal? OMG was it that Zayn guy? Did he call you?”

“No, it wasn’t him.” Soph collapsed on the chair, visibly disappointed. “It was his band mate, Harry, who informed me that the band got a record deal and that they,” and Aly took a deep breath, “are going to be shooting the music video for their first single here in Malibu.” She flinched and waited for Soph’s reaction.

She knew exactly how she would react.

“Aly! Aly, that’s your chance! I told you you’d get a second chance. I knew it. Ha!” Soph was very excited.

“Calm down, I didn’t say I will talk to him. All I got was an invitation to hang out with them. If they have some time to hang, that is.”

“I don’t care what you say. Fate will bring your beloved one here and you will get your happy end.” Soph replied in a Shakespeare-y voice.

“We’ll see. Come July we’ll see.”

And July came. A week before the boys would arrive in Malibu for the shoot Soph insisted to take me to the hair salon she’s frequenting.

“C’mon, you need to do something with that hair of yours.” She dragged me down the boulevard and into the shop.

“What’s wrong with my hair?” I asked while passing a mirror. Okay, it wasn’t fancy, but it was long and healthy.

“We need some structure in that hair and some highlights, a couple reflections…” Soph just wouldn’t stop talking.

“My hair color is fine. I don’t wanna change my hair color.” I protested.

“Don’t you wanna look stunning for Zayn?” Well, she had a point there. Apparently I was on a mission and I could use every help.

“This will be the greatest makeover in the history of makeovers. And after you’re done here I’m taking you shopping for cute clothes.”

I smile at the hairdresser standing behind me, scissors in his hand.

After three whole hours I came out of the hair salon feeling like a different person. It wasn’t a bad feeling, but a very strange one. I had to stop and look at my own reflection at every shop window. It wasn't a huge difference, but still a visible one. Aly 2.0 if you want to call it that.

“I really like it.” I blurted out and Soph smiled content.

“Now you look like a California girl. Zayn’s gonna love it, trust me. Boys love that sun-kissed/beach hair look on girls. It’s natural and very sexy at the same time.” I must admit Soph did a great job with the makeover. And I also had to admit that she was right. I really looked like a California girl.

We walked down the street and reached our next destination. A small boutique stuffed with tons of clothes, shoes, accessories and what not. I already went shopping for summer clothes but what I picked was more casual, everyday kind of stuff. I knew, and Soph knew as well, that I needed something more daring to go with the new look.
