Alright so Saw is not the best place to take a girl who just recently lost their mother. So right now I feel like an idiot. I can tell Sapphire’s a little out of it so I get some popcorn and a soda. I see her watching me while I grab everything wondering if I didn’t force her here if she would have come out by herself. Probably not. I lead her into the movie and go into the back just in case she wanted to leave. She sits there quietly and watches the movie. Occasionally, I look at her and see that she’s looking at me but when I catch her she blushes slightly then looks the other way. I can’t help but smile as she gets flustered when I look catch her looking at me. Some time during the movie she jumped because of what Saw was doing and held on to my arm. I smile and hold her closer to me finally realizing how nice it is to have her against me. As soon as the movie ends the lights flicker on and I look at Sapphire. In the dim light her hair was softened to a lighter shade and her eyes stood out more. I pull her up and lead her to one of my favorite diners. Funny how I met her in a diner and that’s where I’m going to ask her if she wanted to date me sometime. I pull her seat out for her and as she sits I touch the yellowing bruise on her neck. She flinches a little but as I move my hand away I realize her eyes are bloodshot. I tell her to order what ever she’d like. While I order a chicken strip basket with fries and a large coke all Sapphire orders is a salad and some water. I look at her like she’s crazy but I don’t judge. I look at her as she looks at the table obviously not meeting my eyes for some reason.
“Alright what’s up?” I ask seriously. I didn’t like seeing the girl who might be my dream girl upset. Wait. Did I just call her my dream girl? Damn I’ve got it bad. I must have startled her because she jumps a little as she hears me. Before she could answer our food comes and she starts silently eating her salad while I eat the chicken. I watch her as she eats and see that she’s gagging just a little. I’m about to ask what’s wrong but she’s up and running to the bathroom. My eyes follow her the entire way to the bathroom and then I stare at salad. I didn’t need an explanation anymore. I knew what was wrong. She comes back in a few minutes apologizes then looks at the salad. I stare at her no longer hungry. “You’re bulimic aren’t you.” I stated. I look at her and give her the look that says ‘don’t fuck with me’ and she nods. I take a deep breath and look at her, “Why do you do it?”
“Can I tell you later?” she whispers
I nod and stand up getting ready to leave and see Sapphire just sitting there. I go over to her and stand her up. She looks up at me with a confused look while I lead her out with my arm around her waist. I start walking her home like any gentleman should and just keep walking. I look at her and she looks at the ground. She must not get to do this often I think to myself. She asks me if I would like to come inside and I follow her upstairs. She opens her door then closes it softly like she’s afraid someone will wake up. But she must have remembered that her mother was dead. She shakes her head and we go up to her room. While in there I look around. The walls were a blood red color with a black trim around the top of it. All the furniture was either black or white. Sapphire sits on the bed and I sit in a chair close to it. I look at her like she was the only person in the world I needed. Maybe because she was. She was the one girl that might be able to change me. She opens her mouth as if she was going to explain everything when we both hear a door slam downstairs. Suddenly, Sapphire looks at me with a wild expression telling me that I shouldn’t be here. I hear someone slurring Sapphire’s name as they get closer and closer to her room. She pushes me into her closet and closes it but leaving a sliver of it open so I can have some fresh air. I watch out that whole as her dad comes into the room in a drunken rage. She doesn’t say anything when he asks her questions and when she doesn’t he slaps her. She doesn’t say anything but I clench my teeth as he continues hitting her. Not just slapping he starts punching and kicking her too. All the while Sapphire doesn’t say a word. I feel tears running down my cheeks as I hear a crack. She whimpers at that and I see him smile. That sick bastard! He stops kicking and punching her and gets really close. I thought he was going to leave her alone but that sick bastard just goes even further with being a perv. What he does I can’t look away. I’m not into watching it but I finally get a chance to see what Sapphires life is like. Its hell.

When he finally leaves Sapphire is on the bed crying. I rub my eyes noticing I’m crying too. How could someone do that right after his wife died. I come out of the closet and go kneel by Sapphire’s bed. She’s sleeping, thank god, so soundly but with a little hitch in her breathing. I lay my head on her bed and start crying. For my mom, for everyone but mostly her; its starts raining soon after. The sky must be crying too. Maybe rain is a good thing.
