Exiting the hospital is not the best thing for a person badly beaten. First thing that happens is that you get either weird looks or even worse you get glares by people who think that you did it to her. Yeah right like I'd ever do that to a girl. Sapphire was quiet as I signed her out and more than once a person came up to her asking if she was okay and if she was in any sort of trouble. At saying that they automatically turn to me and glares at me. I tense up and the person backs away. I sigh and finally finish her paperwork. I grab her hand and lead her to Tony's car; I hold the door open for her and let her get in before getting in the drivers side.  I close the door and just sit there with my head on the steering wheel. I think of what I'm going to tell her when she finally speaks. She sounds scared. Scared of me. I swear under my breath as this is what I wanted to avoid. I turn to her and see the bruises again. I stare into her beautiful eyes.

"Maybe we should go" she whispers and I snap out of the trance I was in and start the car. I pull out of the parking spot and start driving to my house. She gives me a weird look but lets it go as we drive up to my driveway. I get out at the same time she does and I help her walk inside. Thankfully no one was home. I think of bringing her to my room when I realized that she might not want that. So I swallow my pride and take her to my sisters room. She immediatly goes to the bed and soon falls asleep. I close the door and slide down to the floor. Just thinking of my sister brought all the memories back.

Christmas Eve. A boy 13 years old. He doesnt have any happy memories of this time. He sits at the top of the steps crying as it snows softly outside. He hasn't had dinner in a while so he's rail thin, he has black eyes like the man he calls father. Everything was fine earlier in the day. Even him and his sister didn't fight to make mom happy. Knowing that when it came time for dinner that the man would take the entire meal and if he didnt eat it all he'd throw it to his dogs that he used to hurt the little boy sometimes. The teachers at school don't realize it yet but this little boy gets beaten a lot.. He has an older sister, her name is Julie, and she's 15. She's not the most popular girl but she has a lot of friends. The boy isnt really jealous but he wishes he had friends. The man won't let him though. The boy's mom doesn't bother coming out of the house anymore since she's beaten too badly. The holiday's usually come and go but this one lasted forever. Julie got into a fight with the man about her school work. She was doing that instead of fixing him dinner with mom.

"School's important Father! I won't drop everything for you! If you want something to eat then make it yourself! Your just glad we haven't left you yet for beating us but you know what no! I'm tired of this! I'm sick and tired of you beating us just because your drunk and you can't cook anything. There's this new thing its called a cookbook! Pick one up and read it or go hungry! Your a jerk and a big bully! You think I like what you do to us!? You thought wrong old man I'm tired of hiding and not being able to cry all because you get a kick out of it! You wanna know what! I have a boyfriend do you think that he really doesnt notice the new bruises and the old scars I have! I'm so sick and tired of this that I'm thinking of moving in with him. So stop being so selfish and learn to take care of yourself."  The boy didn't look but he heard a slap coming from downstairs and a person running up to their room. The boy follows the noise and ends up in Julies room who's crying. The boy goes over to her and hugs her. He feels worthless that he can't do anything to help. He wasn't tough enough to do anything. His sister was the rock that kept him together but hearing it the boy realized that she's not so tough herself. The boy goes downstairs and sees the man yelling at his mother. The boy shakes his head and hides. Finally, mother goes to find him and hands him some food on trays for him and his sister. He sneaks it up stairs while the man eats his dinner. The boy knocks on the door careful not to spill the food. No answer. He knocks again. Again no answer. He opens the door and looks at the scene in front of him. His sister was laying on her bed with a pool of blood around her and coming from her wrists. He puts the plate on a table and goes to her. He checks for a pulse but couldn't find one. I run out of the room and sinks down on the top of the steps and brings his knees up to his chest. He doesn't know what to do now. His mind started to go blank as he stopped caring. It was now Christmas Eve. It was snowing outside. The man and his mother were downstairs eating. His sister was dead. He needed some help. But who was going to?
