Josh POV
I take her to the beach. While Tony and I were talking we talked about what was going on with me and her. He said that he thought it was going on for a while but couldn’t find solid proof that he was doing anything till he had proof. Me bringing Sapphire to the house was the best thing to do he said. I smile to myself as I think that maybe I’m the best thing for her. Even though she is just sixteen I might have to wait two years. I mentally slap for thinking that realizing that I didn’t even know if she liked me. Sure she seemed ready to kiss me back in my room but that might have been just my imagination. I drive her to the one place that always calms me down when stuff happens. A hidden beach that I found once with one of the nameless girls that I just wanted to use for my own personal advantage. Once I showed her it she complained about the walk and asked if we were going to make out now. Back then I said yes but with Sapphire I wanted to make it special I had one of my sisters out swimsuits and a picnic basket with a few things any girl would like. I pull up to the beach parking lot and turn off the car. I climb out and grab the stuff from the trunk. I give the bag with the swimsuit in it to Sapphire and tell her to go into the changing rooms to put it on. She gives me a weird look but goes to put on the swimsuit. I wait for her and catch up with some of my old pals from school when they suddenly get distracted by something. Or should I say someone. I turn to see what they’re looking at and see Sapphire. She was covered up and everything but just the way she shined in the sun. She must have realized that people were staring at her because she blushed and came over to me. I smirk at the two dorks who’s jaws have dropped. They compose themselves when she reaches me and they give her charming smiles. I wrap an arm around her waist to show the guys to back off. But do they listen? Of course not. They go right on up to her to introduce themselves.
“Hello there pretty lady I’m Chris and I might be the blonde hair blue eyes good boy but I can be bad if I want to” he has the nerve to wink at her. I see her smile as he takes her hand and kisses it. I roll my eyes and think, Really man? Have some dignity! I pull Sapphire closer to me as Jared comes up next. Jared was just like me we were mistaken as twins once and that’s only because we have the same color hair and act like each other sometimes. The only thing different is our eyes. While mine are black his are bright blue. He got a girl pregnant when he was 16 and the girl ditched him saying he ruined her future so he has to deal with the mistake. His little daughter Bliss is 2 years old and is the most adorable little red haired girl with blue eyes that anyone has ever seen. Speaking of her she runs to me and give me a hug knowing who I am. I smile as she calls me Uncle Josh. I let go of Sapphire and pick her up twirling her around laughing all the while. She clutches to my neck just in case she falls. I laugh as she hits her nose on my forehead. I look to see everyone laughing at me even Sapphire. I try to put Sapphire down but she won’t and of course Jared won’t help so I turn to Sapphire. She nods and looks a Bliss,
“Hi there I’m Sapphire what’s your name?” she asks in her sweet voice
“Hi Sapphire I’m Bliss do you know Uncle Josh?”
“Yes yes I do but you have to let go of him I hear he has cooties” she says quietly and Bliss lets go of my neck and tries to get down. I set her down and she runs to Sapphire trying to get the cooties off. I smile as Sapphire picks her up and places her on her shoulders even though she has bruises there. Bliss apparently wants ice cream so I give her money. As Sapphire takes Bliss to get some ice cream I get surrounded by Jared and Chris. They start asking questions left and right to that I have to laugh. They stop asking then start asking one at a time,
“What’s her name?”
“What kind of girl is she?”
“Why is she hanging out with you?” That came from Chris
“She would make a good mom” I sigh when Jared says that. I look at the ice cream stand and don’t see them. I start searching the beach not seeing them anywhere. I’m about to ask the guys where they went when I turn my head back to the front and see them standing in front of me. I jump back and bump into Chris who is laughing his head off. I glare at him while Bliss eats her ice cream and Sapphire giggles. I give her a glare meaning ‘you’re getting it when we are alone.’ She rolls her eyes and tickles Bliss’ feet making her almost drop her ice cream. Jared takes Bliss off of her shoulders and Sapphire hands me a lemonade. I thank her then take a sip not taking my eyes off of her. Jared was right she would be a good mom considering how she behaves with Bliss. I turn to talk to Chris for a while apparently he’s getting hitched soon and taking over his parents law firm. I congratulate him and go to check on Sapphire who was talking to Jared. I watch them and suddenly Jared looks nervous. Oh no. He’s only gotten nervous once and that was when he asked Bliss’ mom out. Sapphire, who was holding Bliss’ little hand in hers, smiled and nodded. My heart dropped thinking of it. The sun was sitting and we each go into our vehicles ready to go home from our hidden beach trip. Sapphire jumps into the car after confirming something with Jared. He nods and smiles at her before kissing her cheek. For some reason that kiss made me mad. I sit in the front seat waiting for this to be over with. When she finally does I’m out of the beach in less than 5 seconds. I got the car going really fast and I looked at Sapphire who had her eyes covered with her hands trying to not pay attention to how fast we were going. Apparently speeding is a sore subject for her. I need to remind myself to ask about that later. I slow down the car to the speed limit and look at Sapphire I could see she was softly crying. I pull over to the side of the road and look at her. She looks up at me and tells me she was hit by a speeding car when she was little and hated speeding. I sit there shocked as she looks out the window unshed tears still in her eyes. I carefully pull the car back on the road and go the speed limit. Before we know it we’re back at my house and she looks confused. I shake my head and take her inside as the cop cars showed up. She looks at me scared for a second then calms down giving the cold shoulder. They make her sit at the table and tell them everything her father did everything to her. At first she looked like she was going to open up about the raping but she just tells them about the beatings. I stare at her like she was crazy then shake my head. I looked at the wall until they said that her father was in custody and won’t be out for a couple of years. I thank the officers and turn to Sapphire suddenly angry. Not just because of this but of her and Jared. I step up close to her and trap her with my arms on either side of her on the table. I bring my face close to hers and she blushes from being so close. For some reason I liked being in this position. I move a stray strand of hair from her face.
“Would you like to tell me why you didn’t tell the cops about the other thing your father did to you?”
“They didn’t need to know” she whispers
“He can go to jail longer if you had told them” she stays quiet for that then she looks at me with her beautiful blue eyes and I forget what I’m angry about. Well that problem. “What did Jared ask you?”
”He asked me out on a date he’s going to find a babysitter for Bliss then pick me up tonight for dinner” she looks away while telling me this. I feel something in my heart break a little as she said that. Did she not realize I liked her?! If she did then maybe she would have changed her mind. But maybe not since Bliss did need a role model to look up to seeing as her mom wasn’t in the picture. I slightly back away and she runs upstairs to my sisters room. I swear and follow her up, I knock on her door. I stand there and lay my head against the door mumbling how stupid I was. I swear I’m the biggest idiot that ever walked this earth. She wants to be happy and I’m not making her happy so why try. I go to my room and close my door. I open my phone and see that I got a text from Jared and Cecil. Cecil was one of my ‘special people’ that usually I have a good time with so why not while being at home alone having a little fun? I stick my head out of the door and check to see that Sapphire was still in her room. Seeing that she is I close my door and call Cecil up. She answers in her sweet voice that made me smile.
“Hey babe I missed you! Why didn’t you call me back?” I could tell she was pouting on the phone and it made me smile.
“I was gone for a while why don’t you come over later tonight and we can go from where we left off” I smile and say smoothly. She giggles and agrees. We hang up and I check the text from Jared asking if it was cool for me to date Sapphire. What am I supposed to say to that!? No!? I can’t do that especially if he really likes her. I sigh and text back that it was cool. I shut my phone and lay on the bed just thinking. My life couldn’t get any worse but of course I know it could I could have my dad back in the house. That would be the worst thing ever besides having the girl I love dating my best friend. Ah hell.
