Being in a police station at this hour has not been a part of my schedule for today--or ever! The worst part is, I ended up here, from being a victim, to now being the offender. Okay, I just lost my bag, not to mention my files, and now I might possibly go to jail. Someone please wake me up from this nightmare!

"Miss Starre, would you please care to explain what happened?" The policeman asked, breaking my conversation with myself.

"uh-uhm. Someone stole my bag earlier, and so I tried to retrieve it by running toward the thief. My only mistake is that I thought he was the one who stole my bag." Slowly pointing to the man in front of me whose face was now bruised and was staring at me intently as I talked.

Man, if looks could kill, I am already dead! And I mean that in two ways: first, He's so cute I think I'm gonna die; and second, I think that by the way he looks at me, he literally wants to kill me. Either way, I'll be dead soon.

He looked at me with all the hate he could muster and shouted, "Your bag got stolen and you wanted to kill me instead?! Do you know how strong those guys who tackled me were? Why did you even think that I was the one who stole your bag? Do I look like a thief, huh?"

Yes, you kinda are you know, because I think you just stole my heart! Oh shut up hormones. Now is not the time to be thinking of such things! I really need to calm down!

"L-Look. I know it was entirely my fault, and I probably messed up your schedule and all. But you can't blame me for thinking you were the one who stole my bag, because my bag practically looks the same as yours! Same brand, same white color. And you are also wearing a black hoodie, just like the thief. I am sorry."

"You think a 'sorry' can fix this? You had me tackled to the ground! And look at my face!" Gesturing to his cuts and bruises. And looking at the policeman, he added, "I can press charges right?"

"Yes, ofcourse sir, you can. But clearly, this is an honest mistake. You might want to settle for an arrangement instead, because pressing charges isn't as easy as you think. And for you ma'am, I have informed the other policemen along the area about a stolen bag. You have said that it only contains books and papers, so there's a chance that the thief would just throw your bag away. We'll try to locate it, so for the meantime, please refrain from attacking other people. Understood?"

"Yes sir. Thank you for all your help." I said smiling. I felt relieved that I wouldn't be spending the night in jail.
"Whaat? That's it? I got bruised and all, and she gets to go home? that's unfair!"

"Mr. Hart, as I said, you can choose to press charges which takes much effort, or settle for an arrangement that could work in your favor. It's your choice. And may I just say, it's a lot better to choose the latter since it'll be easier for all of us."

He's going to press charges isn't he?! I am just 22 and yet I'll have a police record and possibly sleep in jail! Oh I am so over. No one would trust a doctor with a criminal record for physical assault! I'm doomed! I am soooo dea---

"Ok, I would settle for an arrangement."

deaf.
Am I going deaf? or is this true? No more criminal record?? Hurray!

"That's good to hear Mr. Hart. Well, you can both discuss the terms of the settlement now." The policeman said.

"Sir, thank you for considering this. I really appreciate it. What kind of settlement would you prefer? Monetary? or maybe I could bring you to the ER to get your bruises checked." This would surely chop off a huge part of my allowance.

Standing up, he extended his hand toward the policeman, and said, "Thank you for all your help sir, I really appreciate it." looking at me he added, "maybe it would be much easier if we'll just settle this between us privately, Miss Starre."

And with that we walked out of the police station. Honestly, I felt relieved. I really thought I'd spend the night in jail! I looked at my watch and it was almost 2am. I have a little less than 4 hours to redo my case report, which means I would have no more time to sleep. Suddenly, snapping fingers came to my view.

"Hey! Hey! are you even listening to me?"

I slowly shook my head and awkwardly smiled toward him.
I totally forgot him. Oops!

"I said, I am a bit hungry and maybe we could talk about our agreement over some food." He said in an obviously irritated tone.

"Oh, sure. I am a bit hungry too anyway. There's a McDonald's around the corner, is that okay?"

"Sounds good."

With that we walked in silence, praying that whatever deal we decide upon wouldn't be too hard on me.
