Chapter Eleven
Vance looked down at his Facebook messages and sighed quickly shutting the app, he didn't have time today. He hadn't heard or seen Cyro in a week, a part of him wanted to know why but after two phone calls and three text messages a part of him refused to move forward anymore. He couldn't continue force himself to chance after Cyro.
I'm so sorry, I know what I did was wrong but please get this child away from me. Take her away Vance, I can't look at her anymore and know. I'm so ashamed of what I did please let me put it behind me.
Vance shuddered as Renee's Facebook message read itself in his head over and over. He couldn't bring himself to respond to it, just like he couldn't respond to it nine years ago. He had only been sixteen, how could she ask him to forgive him for something he had to endure so traumatically at the age of sixteen?
Neither of them saw Josh after Halloween, Renee had come to his door begging and crying for Vance to fix the mess that she'd made but he was even more powerless than he was. She'd been playing games she didn't know the rules to, inevitably getting herself penalized for breaking these rules. October had been so long that year longer than he ever wanted to remember. He stayed up every night of the month of October, Renee filling his head, she'd ripped his life to shreds. She only cared when it turned around and effected her.
His phone vibrated in his pocket, he answered it a sigh of relief floating through him as Cyro's voice came on .
"Hey Vance, I've been swarmed with so much school work this past week it's been awful, I was thinking of stopping by to check on you later?"
"I suppose that's fine."
"Most boyfriends say 'Absolutely I missed you so much this past week' jeez." Cyro mumbled under his breath.
"Boyfriend?" Vance questioned the sound of papers shuffling around in the background, Vance sighed realizing Cyro was probably at the college. "Did that happen before or after you angrily stomped out on me last week?"
"Nevermind Vance, I have homework." Cyro hung up suddenly causing Vance to instantly realize what he'd done wrong.
~x~
Cyro looked at his phone for a minute, he just couldn't seem to catch a break from Vance, either he wanted to much or he didn't seem interested at all. He couldn't wrap his mind around how a person could say he's in love with someone and show it one minute and not the next. He'd long excepted that there was a heartless side to Vance that served as his permanent mask and anything that resembled human was just a crack in said mask but it didn't make it any less annoying or hard to deal with.
He moved to shove his phone back into his pocket when it vibrated, he thought about ignoring it. He didn't want to talk to anyone but he looked at it in curiosity. His grandmothers name stared back at him, he stood shocked he hadn't talked to the woman in years for her to just call out of the blue it had to be a family emergency.
"Gran, how are you?"
"Oh, I'm wonderful dear." His grandmother voice sounded happier than he'd expected it to be. "Your mother called me yesterday."
"Gran, being gay isn't a sin." Cyro sighed shifting to the side, looking around his college campus not sure if anyone was anyone was listening, if he was going to start screaming he didn't want to have to explain to his classmates that his grandmother was being homophobic.
"Of course not hon, whatever makes you happy, I was just wondering why I haven't met this man, your mother says you've been keeping him a secret. Are you ashamed of us?"
"Oh Gran of course not." An instant feeling of shame flooded his stomach. "I just met him, barely a month ago Gran."
"But your mother says your fucking him." His grandmother chuckled slightly and Cyro could feel himself turning deep red in the face.
"Gran, that doesn't mean that its serious or that he needs to meet my family." Cyro pinched the bridge of his nose shaking his head. "Gran, I doubt that you'll even ever meet him."
"Why? Don't you like him?" She asked, obviously curious not even pretending to be subtle. "Most gay boys your age are getting engaged and filling out adoption papers. Where's my Asian grand-babies, huh?"
"Gran I have no idea what gay boys are adopting kids at twenty two but Vance already has a kid and he won't even show me pictures, I don't think he wants to have anymore, with me anyways."
"Vance huh? An Italian, oh how sexy!"
"Gran focus."
"I'm always focused dear, I'm sure you're just over thinking it, I'm sure everything will work out for the best he's probably just embarrassed by having a child with someone he's no longer with. A child is a very serious commitment dear." His grandmother said sternly, he assumed she was probably throwing his grandfather a dirty look. "Maybe you should just ask to meet his family Cyro, then he can come meet us?"
"I guess, sure Gran, if I meet his daughter he'll meet my family."
"Don't be so hard on him dear, he's probably spent a lot of time atoning for someone else's sin, give him the benefit of the doubt."
"Yes, Gran." Cyro laughed gently. "Can I go now ma'am?"
"Yes, dear, I'll be seeing you soon."
Cyro hung up sliding the phone into his pocket, he smiled slightly laughing to himself. Looking around the campus, he spotted a trash can, suddenly remembering the little sticky note in his pocket from class he walked towards it tossing it inside. He set his backpack down gently before leaning over the trashcan looking down into the nearly empty can and heaved up all his stomach content.
