Working on a movie at this capacity was hard but I was enjoying every moment of it. Pre-production was going amazing and we already had so many of the actors picked out. The story, in short, was about a girl who moves to LA with like a dream to be a dancer but she falls into this toxic relationship but then she like breaks away from him. I was trying to make it an as poignant message that I know the screenwriter wanted.
I got home after a long day in the studio and absolutely crashed on the bed.
I heard a knock at my door.
"Go away I'm dead." I responded, only half joking.
The door was opened anyway and Arielle peaked her head in the door.
"Hey something came for you in the mail today." She walked in my room and handed me a golden envelope.
I grabbed it from her and sat upright in my bed. I opened it so the paper inside wouldn't rip. It seemed to be a bit thicker than paper. I pulled it out and it was decked out in cursive.
I read it and was completely shocked.
"What is it?" Arielle asked. She fiddled with the ends of her hair.
"I'm invited to the Young Artists Gala." This was a very prestigious gala that honored some of the best artists from their respective field, under the age of 25.
"What that's amazing!" Arielle cheered.
"Why did they pick me though?" I asked. I mean I hadn't even released a movie yet.
"Well Rachel you are currently the youngest director in Hollywood right now. They would be stupid not to pick you." She was right. Most of the directors in Hollywood at the moment we're over 40.
"Oh my god. I have to get a dress. Oh I get to bring a date." I thought about all the things I had to do before this event that was in two weeks.
"Are you going to take Asher?" Arielle asked me.
"What?"
"Asher. Your boyfriend." I'm not sure why he slipped my mind when she brought him up but it couldn't have been good.
"Oh yah. Yah I'll bring him." I focused on the invitation so I didn't have to see the look I knew she was giving me right now. The look that says 'are you serious'. Since she was in practically the healthiest relationship ever, she knew one that was destined for failure, from a mile away. I knew if I looked into her eyes I could see what she knew about Asher and me.
I locked my gaze onto the invitation and she left my room with out a word.
I picked up my phone to make a call. After a few seconds of ringing, I got an answer.
"Hey."
"Hey Asher. Do you want to go to a gala with me?"
