Three hours. Three hours we've been sitting around trying to contact someone on our phones but ended up with no signal. The boys have tried smashing windows the the steel bars were preventing that from happening making them become more furious by the minute. We've walked from top to bottom exploring the hospital searching for something or someone but it was just lifeless and empty. I looked outside from my bed seeing the sun slowly fall behind the trees. I wonder what Mias doing, my mum, my dad and sister. Do they know we're here? Do they know we're trapped?
"Red night sailors delight," Luke mumbled still dressed in his hospital gown, sitting up on my bed. The orange reflection highlighted his face bringing out his features. I've heard my parents say that quite often and I've actually lived by it, it's always been true. Red night sailors delight, red morning sailors warning.
I smiled back at him shuffling over to give him some room. I stayed looking at him, his eyes following mine. Neither of us smiled, just stared. "Someone will come tomorrow," he said cutting off our gaze turning to look out the window. The trees were still like statues, the shadows reflecting on the ground.
"I hope," I looked down to my hands, seeing the bruise that covered the skin of where the needle needed to be. I ran my fingers over it, pressing down on the blue and purple lump feeling the pain erupt. It was almost soothing, the pain taking over the thoughts in my mind.
"I had a look through some of these," he opened his hand revealing a couple of folded slips of paper in his palms. He opened the first one up, the map that Calum and I found earlier. "You see there are six other exits around here," he pointed to them on the map. "One of them at least has to have an emergency exit button or something."
I nodded finding other rooms that we had not yet explored. We refuse to explore them now as all of us are exhausted. He opened up another sheet, filled with words and numbers that I couldn't be bothered to read it if I saw it.
"This one explains the different wards in here and some numbers that I don't understand. I'll ask some of the other boys too have a look and see if they notice anything," he gave a distant smile, handing me the sheet. "You see, we're currently in just a patients room but down the hall from here is the Physiotherapist ward," he pointed to the word beside Level Three,"and also the General Radiography rooms."
It links up to our injuries so we couldn't be in danger in the wrong room.
"I want to read up more about this stuff, maybe we could check files on the computers and get more information about other patients and all," I asked folding up the papers handing them back to Luke. His fingers grazed over my skin before grabbing onto my hand. He noticed what he was doing quickly letting go giving an awkward laugh making me chuckle.
"Oh- uh uhm yeah that'd be good," his laugh came out nervously making me smile. He gently stood up walking back his bed. All the boys were laying under the sheets of the beds, either on their phones or sleeping which Michael was already doing.
I could only hope for someone to come, wishing that Mr. Carter would arrive to see how we were doing or something and notice the situation we were currently being held in. If I could go back and reverse coming here, I don't think I would. Knowing how close Luke was too death made me sick. But of course, something bad has had to come out at the end of it.
I spent the rest of the evening watching the sun slowly fall behind the faces of mountains, the top of them looked like a child's attempt at drawing a straight line. The room was slowly darkening making me feel uncomfortable and uneasy. I looked around to the other boys squinting my eyes to try spot them better. It looked like they were all sitting up.
"Guys?" I whispered waiting for a reply. All of them replied with a yes or yeah. "I- I don't like this," I slightly mumbled.
"Me too, hold up I'll turn the light on." I think Ashton spoke up, hearing the shuffles of his feet on the ground walking to the switch. I heard a click but nothing happened, then several clicks with nothing else happening too. "Uhm- there's no power."
I groaned falling back into my soft pillow letting my head sink in. Four torches switched on around the room, the boys using there phones to light it up. "Use your phone Blake," Michael said shinning it into my eyes blocking it with my hand.
"She can't," Luke laughed, "she has a crappy Nokia!" It felt good to hear Luke laugh.
"Oh shut it," I snapped grinning.
"Guys can we please put our beds together I'm not loving this!" Michael whined jumping up.
We all agreed wheeling Michael and Ashton's bed to our side of the room. Ashton closet to the door, then Michael, Calum, me and Luke near the end. We huddled in together keeping the heat going between our bodies as the thin white sheets weren't doing their justice. For once I felt safe and secured, like nothing could possibly harm us if they tried. My eyes were about to daze off when someone coughed making me spring them back open. A small 'sorry' whispered down from the front, might have been Ashton.
"Michael get your hands off my face!" Calum whined shuffling round in his bed. I felt him kick my leg making him pounce up apologising one thousand times making me just laugh.
"Guys I need to use the toilet," Michael sighed sitting up, seeing the shadow of his hair was all messy.
"No one gives a shit," Luke complained his mouth right by my ear laughing at his own horrible pun.
"I'm too scared to go out there."
"Someone just go with him oh my god," I threw my head into my pillow shutting my eyes tightly, I was so tired but my body just wasn't shutting down.
Ashton took one for the team going with Michael out to the toilets. There was no way in hell I'd be going at night, I'd just have to hold on till day. The room fell silent for a good ten minutes after that, what the hell was taking them so long? I decided to ignore the fact, closing my eyes. They're old enough to find their way around if they were lost, they shouldn't be too far. And with that thought left in mind I felt my body relax falling into a deep sleep.
