They've always said that bad things happen to good people and I always used to think that maybe it was a coincidence or it was just the universe's way of fucking up your life. Let's just say that I might have really pissed the universe off for reasons unbeknownst to me. It felt like everything was moving in slow motion and I'm sure if this was a movie that it would do just that. I didn't have time to run out of my room before I heard loud screaming and Halsey ran into my room.
"What happened?" I asked trying to get past Halsey but she kept blocking me from leaving but she allowed Natasha to exit my room.
"It's not safe for you to go out there," Halsey said.
"Why not? I'm a lot less safer being in here with my psychotic mother" I said and Halsey looked behind me to see my mother standing in a corner.
"You had something to do with this, didn't you?" Halsey said and I was confused by her words until I noticed she was talking to my mother not me.
"I can explain..." my mother said trailing off.
"She was just a little girl and your fucking granddaughter," Halsey said walking towards my mother but I grabbed her arm.
"Halsey, what are you talking about?" I asked and I had a feeling what she was going to tell me but I didn't want it to be true. I pray to God it wasn't true.
"She's dead Y/N," Halsey said as she looked at me with anger and sorrow in her eyes.
I wanted to reply, but I had to see it for myself. I grabbed Halsey's arm and tugged on it. I could tell all she wanted to do was beat the shit out of my mom and I normally wouldn't be opposed to the idea, but I needed her to show me. Halsey followed behind me as I we both ran to the front of the house where the noise came from. There were loud sirens and the smell of smoke, but that wasn't what caught my attention. It was Ally on her knees in tears as Camila wrapped her arms around her.
"Halsey, what happened?" I asked as the paramedic pulled a lifeless body from out of the overturned vehicle.
"It was Carmen," Halsey said.
"What," I said as the pounding in my ears started and this is what I feared most. It didn't make any sense, everything was fine.
"Carmen's friend mother said the brakes didn't work and it made no sense because it was fine yesterday," Halsey said.
I opened my mouth to respond, but Ally's yelling made me close my mouth.
"This is your fault," Ally shouted at me pushing Camila away from her when she tried to stop her.
"Ally...I know you're hurting but this wasn't my fault," I said and then Ally slapped me in the face and then shoved me.
"I told you to not let her go, but you wouldn't listen" Ally shouted as she started to hit me.
I managed to get a grasp on Ally's wrist to stop her from hitting me. "She was my daughter too," I yelled at Ally my voice shaky.
"You were never there for her. You abandoned her to go overseas and then got captured" Ally shouted.
I stared at Ally in disbelief as Camila pulled Ally away from me.
"She didn't mean it Y/N, she's just upset" Halsey said.
"No, she's right" I said watching Camila console Ally as she cried in her arms and walked her into the house.
"You can't blame yourself for this," Halsey said.
"It's no one else's fault but mine. I let Carmen go to that play date after Ally told her she couldn't go. If I just backed up Ally then none of this would've happened" I said.
