Tom's POV:
Man, I was so excited for today! Finally, Tucker, Sonja, Jordan, Wag and I were going on the camping trip we had planned for 3 weeks now! Today was the day I was actually excited about waking up at 8 AM.
My eyes snapped open quickly. The wood ceiling was the only thing I could see while I was still lying down in bed. I forced myself to sit up and crawl out of bed. With that, I began my very boring and normal morning routine.
I took off my t-shirt and pajama pants. My hand reached for the water nozzle and steaming hot water rushed out of the faucet. And with that, I just took a pretty normal shower.
After about 15 minutes, I was drenched in water and, mostly, clean. I grabbed a silk red robe and wrapped it around me. The steamy feel of the bathroom was left to sit as I paced over to my room. During the trip, I wasn't going to be in a fancy suit and all that stuff. Camping is about getting dirty and having fun! That's why I'm leaving my suit jacket and tie at home. I need new clothes.
It was already 8:45 when I had finished looking relatively presentable. I fixed up some eggs and toast really quick for breakfast, seeing as we'd probably be exploring today. When I was walking into my room, I saw my backpack filled with camping stuff. Kneeling down, I made sure I had all the essentials to take on this trip.
Sleeping bag? Check. Tent? Check. Lights? Check. Extra clothes? Check. Emergency survival kit? Definitely check. Cooler? Check. Blankets? Check. Hair and skin care essentials? Check. Great, I had everything! I looked down at my watch and saw it was 9:10. We didn't start the trip for real until 9:30, but it takes a while to get there.
Standing up, I made sure my communicator was secure on my wrist and my backpack was all zipped up. I grinned and stepped to the door. My backpack was hanging loosely on my shoulder as I looked back at the door, realizing that I wouldn't be here for another few days. With that, I shut my door and walked out.
After exactly 20 minutes, a few people came into view, along with mumbles of conversations.
"Hey Tucker!" I greeted happily. "How're you going, dude?" He turned around and beamed.
"Hey!" Tucker said. "Good to see you! I'm doing great!" The four of us started talking about the most random stuff until Sonja started telling us to stop loudly.
"Hold on, hold on," she said loudly. "Anyone else notice that Jordan isn't here?" We all immediately stopped talking as our heads turned around. He really wasn't there.
"How long has it been?" Wag questioned. Tucker looked at his watch.
"Half an hour?" Tucker responded slowly. The color drained out of my face. He was never late. To really anything.
"Should we go check on him?" I suggested, wringing my hands together. My friends nodded quickly. With that, the four of us quickly ran over to Jordan's Fortress of Fury.
Once we reached the Fortress, everyone was waiting in great anticipation. I raised my hand and knocked on the door a few times. All of the sudden, on the 3rd knock, the door creaked open. My eyes widened as I looked at my friends.
"Should we?" I asked.
"Open the door." Wag ordered. I followed the wizard's orders and pushed open the door, which groaned loudly. My first thought was to run. But sadly, I couldn't. Shakily, I took a few more steps into the first room of the Fortress, with everyone else trailing behind. This room looked barren.
It looked like no one had been here in days. Weeks, possibly. Little cobwebs had started to form in the corners. The coffee pot was full. A light was still on. Flickering, but on. As we were examining the mostly purple and green surroundings, Sonja let out a gasp.
"W-What's that on the d-desk?" she stuttered worriedly. Tucker quickly pushed past her and ran up to the desk. I couldn't see what he was holding, but the second he turned around, my face fell. In Tucker's hands, were a pair a berry red sunglasses.
"They're... They're Jordan's sunglasses..." Tucker choked, his eyes widening in fear.
"He never goes anywhere without his sunglasses, doesn't he?" Wag questioned.
"Not once, not ever. He has them with him 24/7." I interjected.
"He doesn't even take them off when he's at home," Sonja mentioned. "He hates his eyes." I focused my gaze over to Sonja.
"How did you know he hated his eyes?" I questioned.
"He mentioned it at Christmas dinner back in Mianite." Sonja explained. Then, for whatever reason, everyone started talking about last year's Christmas dinner. Wow. We could not focus on anything. Wag started moaning how he was never at the dinner, while Tucker and Sonja were just laughing.
"Guys!" I exclaimed. "We're looking for our missing friend here!" Their attention focused back on me and I suddenly felt extremely self-conscious. Suddenly, Tucker's eyes widened in realization.
"His communicator." Tucker said quickly.
"What about his communicator?" Wag asked.
"He always keeps it on him. Always. He never is eve in his house without it."
I pushed past Sonja and dashed into the first room I thought he spent most of his time in. His room. The door was obviously unlocked, so I slapped my hand against it and the door flew open. Instantly, I dashed into the room. The room was unnaturally clean. The bed was made, the lights were off, the dressers closed, but one object made my stomach churn.
A small communicator sat on Jordan's desk. No one spoke. Everyone was in shock. I slowly went to pick up the communicator.
"W-When was the last call or message or something that he last sent?" Wag questioned in a low voice. My fingers flew across the tiny screen until I found his messages. The words written across the screen shocked me.
"I-It says 'Heading over to work on some portals with Gaines. Don't kill Mot!' A-And it was sent to me. I never got this text!" I responded, taking a closer look at the screen. Honestly, I really never did get that text.
"When did he send it?" Sonja asked through her chattering teeth. My eyes darted towards the screen again.
"5 days ago." I said slowly. Nothing else needed to be said. Something bad happened to Jordan. Something really bad. And frankly, I would like to know what.
