Tom's POV:
"He's gone."
Those words felt like a knife through my heart. No... He can't be gone! A lock seemed to tie my heart up in a knot and refused to give me the key. My hands began instantly shaking.
"No... No you're lying. Please tell me you're lying." I said shakily, unable to stop my hands from vibrating. Slowly, the wizard shook his head and looked at the floor.
"I'm not, Tom. I'm sorry. He's dead." The word 'dead' felt like a shotgun to the heart instead of just a measly knife. Before I knew it, tears started streaming from my eyes. I felt like I was sinking into a black hole. My entire world had stopped. Jordan was dead. My best friend, dead.
"He can't be! There has to be some way to get him back!" I cried loudly. Wag placed a hand on my shoulder, but I quickly pushed it off. He had to be lying. Jordan couldn't be just gone.
"Tom, I'm sorry!" Wag replied. "We can't. The spell was extremely difficult. We're lucky that the particles appeared. Most wizards don't even get that far."
Ignoring the words of the wizard, I looked back at Jordan. His chest wasn't moving whatsoever. His eyes were closed. Cuts and scrapes were littered across his face and arms. A horrible feeling surrounded my heart. To see for myself, I laid my own two fingers on his wrist. Nothing. Just nothing.
My breathing suddenly started coming in short, quick bursts. The sad realization dawned over me. It all added up, but at the same time, it didn't. He was in perfect health when he came back to Dagrun! Well, not emotionally, but physically! I laid my head on the table, right next to his hand.
"P-Please come back..." I sobbed, tears springing from my eyes. My entire body felt broken. Wag stood behind me awkwardly and rubbed his arm apprehensively.
"Listen it's not your fault..." Wag started, holding out his hand in front of him. Even more depressed, I looked up at him in tears.
"It is!" I screamed. "If I would have come with him to hang out with Gaines, I could have stopped him from ever getting captured in the first place! And I could have knocked him out when he 'killed' me so we wouldn't have lost all of that quintessence!" My throat became sore and I coughed loudly. Wag was silent, but his eyes suddenly widened.
"Quintessence. Ianite." he whispered, looking up at the ceiling. I raised an eyebrow, confused.
"What do you mean?" I asked, stopping my crying for just a moment.
"Jordan, uh, passed because he lost all of the quintessence. If we can get some quintessence back, hopefully somehow close to Ianite, we can save him. Maybe..." My broken heart soared momentarily.
"Well what do we have? Any, like, artifacts or something?" Silence. My gaze focused on the ground in concentration. What did we have? Uh...
"THE IANITAS!" Wag shouted, his blood red eyes growing enormous. My eyes widened as well. The Ianitas! They did have quintessence.
"But wait," I started. "Tucker killed all of them and if there was an extra, we need the Kikoku, which again, Tucker has." Wag's expression fell.
"Then we're in trouble." he whispered, looking at the ground.
"Why?"
"Tucker got mad at me because I apparently 'betrayed' him, so he, Sonja, Martha and Andor went to Dagrun." I shook my head.
"I don't care, I'm calling him." Swiftly, I pulled my communicator up to my hand and attempted to type in Tucker's number. Right before I was about to press "Call," Wag snatched my arm and prevented me from calling.
