Tom's POV:

I set his communicator back down and began pacing. This was bad. And I mean bad bad. My fingers ran through my uncombed purple hair in anxiety. What happened to him? And how did it happen?

"Tom, you need to calm down." Tucker said softly. My gaze focused on him as my eyes narrowed. He just didn't understand, did he?

"One of our best friends is missing and you're asking me to calm down?!" I questioned in rage. "Jordan's gone! And we don't know where the HECK he is! Tell me, do you know how to find him? Hmm? Answer me that." Tucker's face fell as he looked down at his feet.

"Wait, what did the last message on his communicator say?" Sonja asked slowly. My finger flipped open the communicator and looked through the messages.

"Again, it says 'Heading over to work on some portals with Gaines. Don't kill Mot!' Sent 5 days ago." I recited again, holding the communicator by my thigh. She looked at the floor in concentration. What did that mean? Those two names repeated in my mind over and over again. Mot, Gaines, Mot, Gaines, Mot, Gaines, Mot, Gaines... Nothing. Just nothing.

"Should we go and ask Mot if he's seen Jordan or Gaines?" Wag suggested, crossing his arms together tightly. Before I could even respond, Sonja dashed out the door, quickly followed by Tucker. Wag shrugged and followed after them. Groaning, I ran after Wag.

A few minutes later, we arrived at Mot's home in Urulu. Tucker's hand collided a couple of times with the door. Moments later, the door swung open and revealed Mot, his flower crown placed perfectly on his head.

"Oh, hello," Mot said nervously. "What do you need?" My face grew bright red.

"What'd you do to Jordan?!" I shouted, pointing a finger at his chest. Mot's dark eyes grew wide.

"W-What?" Mot asked. "What do you mean?" My eyebrows furrowed as I grabbed the hybrid by the collar, pulling him off his feet.

"I'm going to ask you one more time," I ordered. "What. Did. You. Do. To. Jordan." Mot's face grew a bright shade a red from lack of oxygen.

"I-I-I..." Mot choked out, unable to speak. Tucker sprinted towards me and pried my fingers away from Mot's neck. The hybrid let out a sigh and rubbed his throat.

"Tom, just calm down!" Tucker exclaimed. "If he doesn't even understand what you're saying, then he probably didn't do it!" My heart rate decreased as I stepped back and mumbled an apology.

"Thank you," Mot breathed. "And what were you saying about Sparklez?" I looked away, refusing to even glance at Mot.

"Something happened to him," Wag explained. "We don't know what happened, who made it happen, or where he is. All we know is that he's missing." Mot nodded and looked at his gloved hands.

"Do you have any clues?" Mot asked, suddenly serious.

"He sent a message to Tom saying something about Gaines and portals. That's the most recent thing we have so far." Sonja mentioned, resting her head on Tucker's shoulder. Mot nodded once more as a small grin spread across his face, but quickly fell.

"Gaines." Mot said quickly.

"What about Gaines?" I asked.

"Gaines was in on this," Mot concluded. "He did something, somehow." My face fell. What could Gaines have done?

"So what do we do?" Tucker asked. "And how did you find out that Gaines did it?" Mot sent a look towards Tucker.

"Sparklez was going to work on portals with Gaines," Mot explained. "The last time Sparklez was seen was with Gaines. Who else would it be?" A small chuckle escaped my lips as I looked over at Mot.

"That's actually really smart." I said, a hint of laughter found in my voice. Mot nodded silently and glanced towards a mirror, just to adjust his flower crown.

"So should we go to Dagrun and all of the portals Gaines and Jordan set up?" Sonja asked. All Mot did was walk out the door, probably to Dagrun. My friends and I followed suit.

After a brisk walk, we reached the portal area of the town. But something was off. Well, everything was off. All of the portals were deactivated. Offline. Dead. And no sign of anyone. Almost everything was destroyed. All of the houses in the town. All the shops, houses, everything. It was all gone.

"Whoa," Wag breathed lightly. "I think the town died."

"I second that." Tucker choked. I took a few steps forward, into the rubble of what was left of the town.

"How did this happen?" I asked loudly. "Everything is gone. All the residents, even the guards are gone. It's just a wasteland." Hot tears started to escape my eyes. Why was I crying? I never even got a place in the town! That stupid King Helgrind kicked me out before I could make one! Wag walked up to the portal to Katsir and ran a hand down it.

"All of the portals aren't responding either." Wag concluded. He took out a wrench and began poking at the wiring in that one.

"How are you going to fix the Katsir portal by poking a wrench at it?" Tucker questioned.

"Because I'm a wizard." Wag responded blandly. I laughed.

Wag continued to poke at the Katsir portal for a few more minutes. Different sparks emitted from different parts of the portal. Suddenly, Wag poked at one of the red wires and a loud BOOM! sounded from the portal. We all jumped back in fear.

"Wag, what the heck did you do?!" I yelled fearfully.

"Something?!" Wag responded, his voice shaking. Particles from the portal stared swirling all around, surrounding the area. The portal couldn't even be seen anymore. Then, the smoke cleared and left the portal standing there. Except something had changed.

It was on.

But it was only the Katsir portal. All the other portals were still offline and vacant. I looked at Wag in awe, who just stood there, eyes wide.

"Wag, you fixed the portal!" Sonja exclaimed happily, giving the wizard a hug, making Tucker unhappy. Wag squirmed away awkwardly and glanced at Tucker. I looked at my three very confused friends, and Mot I guess...

"Should we walk in?" Tucker asked cautiously. I took one slow step forward.

"On my count," I said. "1...2...3!" My legs forced themselves to run towards the portal. Darkness surrounded me and I blacked out.
