"Wonderful work Eliza. All of my money has been returned."

Eliza knelt at Lady Marie's feet, head down, trying to block the memories of her last encounter with her sister.

"Here is your payment," Marie tossed a bag to her, which Eliza easily caught.

"Thank you," Eliza replied without a smile. She stood to leave.

"Wait," Marie stopped her. "I have another job for you."

Eliza stopped. "What is it?"

"A sorceress," Marie said. "A witch, really. She's been causing trouble. You're to track her down."

"Who is she?"

"She goes by the name Asterodea Cogsworth."

For the smallest fraction of a second, an unidentifiable emotion flashed across her eyes. "I'm sorry, but I must deny."

"It's not a request from me. It comes directly from the Assassin's headquarters."

This was a surprise. "Asterodea must really be a problem."

"You've been assigned to a squad. Also, you've been assigned an apprentice."

Eliza groaned. She hated group projects, especially those involving apprentices. Pushy, annoying, and without self control for anything, they had always been a thorn. And now she had been doomed to one during the three years of Assassin training.

"I'll take the mission, but tell Grace I won't take the apprentice."

"She knew you'd say that. She said that under no circumstances are you allowed to deny the apprentice. Her exact words were, 'She's getting an apprentice, whether she likes it or not.'"

"She knows me well. All right. I'm headed to headquarters. Pleasure working with you, my lady."

"And you, Eliza."

Sorry. I have no idea what's going on, seeing as I'm watching Netflix at the same time.
I am enjoying this probably way more than I should be.
