Chapter Twenty Four: Final Stand (Ending Two)

Picks up from about halfway through the original chapter twenty four

"Pathetic little things," Asterodea's voice echoed. "Don't they teach you to never let your guard down?"

Blinding light filled the previously sightless cavern.

All of them stood quickly with their weapons at hand. Immediately, all but Eliza were frozen.

"No need to bother you all. This is between little Lizzie and me."

Eliza looked Asterodea dead in the eye. "This ends today."

Asterodea laughed lightly. "I daresay it does."

No matter how fast Eliza was, Asterodea was faster. She either dodged or blocked everything Eliza threw at her, all while delivering highly effective blows. This was a fight she was destined to lose from the start.

But she never gave up, as always.

As the witch and the Assassin dueled, Eliza could feel herself getting weaker. She wasn't sure how much longer she could sustain herself, but she was almost certain she'd die here.

Stop that, she scolded herself. You'll only die here if you start thinking like that.

Still, Asterodea was much stronger than Eliza, and without the rest of the group, she wouldn't last much longer.

One last burst of strength. Eliza had made several strikes against Asterodea, and this one left a ragged gash in her right arm. Asterodea recoiled back instinctively, clutching the wound. In retaliation, she fired a badly aimed spell, which shot past Eliza, causing her to lose her balance. Eliza in turn lost her balance and fell back, lacking the strength to rise.

Out of nowhere, an arrow shot at Asterodea. Analise's arrow struck her unprotected chest, and Ebony's follow up spell sent the witch over the edge into the abyss.

The rest of the group clumped together and cried in relief.

We're alive. She's dead. We're alright.

We're alright.

Hello everyone. I hope you don't mind just one more update for this.
As I was getting close to finishing, I started to realize just how bad of an idea killing Eliza was. I was already attatched to the plot of Revenge, so I didn't want to back out. But I started having second thoughts about the original ending.
So I started writing an alternate ending. Originally it was going to go on longer, but for whatever reason I decided to end it here.
Thank you all again for your support in this project. I am very greatful for all my readers, and I hope you'll consider looking at other works of mine.
