Zacky grabbed his keys and angrily marched out of Brian’s house and Lyric wasn’t far behind.
He needs to back the fuck away from my sister before he gets himself into some serious trouble… with me! Zack thought, not concentration on his driving like he really should be.
Why does he have to like my sister out of all the girls out there? Why can’t he find…
“Where are you going?” A voice ripped Zack from his thoughts and he glanced over at Lyric for a moment before turning his attention back to the road.
“My house,” he answered. “Where else would I be going?” I’d like to be going to a bar and drink the pain away, but not while Lyric’s with me.
“I said to take me home, not take me to your house,” She replied coldly, her face expressionless as she stared out the windshield.
“Mind if we stop at the liquor store? I need to pick up some more Daniel’s.” He relaxed a little of the thought of going home and drinking some Jack Daniel’s.
“Fine by me. I need to restock in alcohol as well, because some tattooed metal-rock guitarist came to my house the other day and raided my fridge,” Lyric joked, finally starting to calm down after being all worked up.
“Well if he comes around again, call me up and I’ll kick his ass,” Zacky said laughing, while pulling into the parking lot of Wine & Spirits.
After getting liquor at Wine & Spirits and stopping at the nearest beer distributor, Zacky and Lyric headed towards her house with a good amount of alcohol.
“Wanna stay here, have a few drinks?” Lyric offered, tossing her house keys onto her kitchen counter after bringing everything into the house.
“Well, if I start drinking, it wouldn’t be responsible for me to drive home afterwards, and I’d have to spend the night here. And it’s not that I have a problem with that, but I have no clean clothes with me. I’ve been wearing these clothes for three days now,” Zack told her.
“Alright, so I guess I’ll talk to you later?” She asked, grabbing a beer out of the fridge.
“Yeah, I’ll catch ya later, sis,” he said, walking towards the front door.
“I uh… I,” Lyric began; rocking back and forth on her heals again. Zack just looked at her, kind of confused. “I love you,” she blurted out quickly before looking down at the floor, instantly regretting saying that.
It was the first time in eight years that Lyric had said that to her brother. She remembered that day too. It was the day he left home so he could be in his band full time.
“Wh-Where are you going with all of that stuff?” Lyric asked, looking at Zack who had a duffel bag and his guitar slug across his shoulder.
“Lyric,” he started, tears forming in his eyes. He didn’t want to leave her, but he had high hopes of making it big one day, and once he did, he would come back for her and they would live as a family once again. “I’m leaving,” he said.
“I thought you loved me? I thought you were my brother!” She shouted, throwing the nearest thing at Zack, which happened to be the vase that was sitting on the kitchen counter. The flowers in it were the ones Zack had brought home for Lyric just the week before.
Zack fortunately ducked, just in time for the vase to shatter against the wall behind him.
“I do love you, and you are my sister, but this could be my chance to be in a band! I have a good feeling about these guys… One day you’re gonna see our band name all over the place. And that’s when I’ll come and get you and we can live as brother and sister again. I promise.”
“I love you, Zacky!” Lyric exclaimed hugging him tight, the tears pouring from her red, puffy eyes.
“Love you too, Lyr,” he told her, and with that, he left.
“C’mere and gimme a hug!” Zack said, and they hugged.
God, eight fucking years, Lyric thought. Eight years since I’ve hugged my brother and said I loved him. That’s eight years too long.
“Love you too, Lyric. Always and forever,” Zack said, and it reminded Lyric of that day. That day eight years ago. But she knew that this time he wasn’t going to leave her. He had come back for her finally, and now she wasn’t ever going to let him go.
Zack went home after he left Lyric’s. He wasn’t feeling up to going to a bar. And he couldn’t let all of the liquor he just bought go to waste. So he went home and practically drank the pain away. He just couldn’t get the images of Lyric and Brian out of his head.
He knew it was going to happen. He knew by coming back into her life, she was gonna fall for one of the boys, and he wouldn’t be surprised if he found out someone besides Brian fancied her too. And he knew the boys better than anyone else out there, but the thought of his little sister, all grown up and dating someone, scared the shit out of him.
It’s fucking inevitable. I just have to put the fear of God into Brian and hope he treats her right.
Now while heavily drinking ran in the family, and she loved Jack Daniel’s almost as much as her brother, Lyric only had 2 beers before she went upstairs and opened her laptop. While she waited for it to boot up, she got her pajamas on and got all ready for bed.
Checking her email, she saw that her editor had messaged her and asked if she had any plans to start writing a new book.
Lyric thought about it. It had been a while since she published her latest book, but she had been busy with book signings and going to schools to talk to the little elementary school kids these past few months. Her life had just begun to slow down a bit, but now she had Avenged Sevenfold and she had a feeling things were going to get hectic again. Hectic can be good sometimes, it keeps me busy.
Just then she got a crazy-good idea! What if her next book wasn’t a little book for young kids, but a young adult novel? I think I can pull it off, she thought, grabbing her reading glasses from her nightstand.
And then she just started writing. She had no real plot, no outlined characters. She just wrote. She had always hated doing outlines and mapping stuff out. She just let the characters do what they wanted. I don’t control the story, the characters do.
She fell asleep three hours and several typed pages later. She was lying on her stomach at the foot of her bed, her glasses still on and her laptop right next to her head.
A ringing cellphone woke her up around 9:30 the next morning. She was startled by the noise, making her jump, which made her laptop fall off the bed and onto the floor.
“You fucking bitch!” Lyric shouted, and stormed past her laptop. She picked her cell up and answered it.
“What the hell do you want?” Lyric spat into the phone, not mad at anyone but herself for accidentally knocking her laptop off her bed.
“Whoa! Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning,” a deep voice chuckled on the other side of the line.
“Brian? How’d you get my number?”
