Hanna's POV
I wake in a dim room smelling of chemicals and cleanliness. I feel the soft presence of a hand in mine and I look down to see Emily asleep at my side.
My eyes slowly adjust to the light, and I look around the room at my friends and my mother.
I don't want to wake them up, but I also don't want to go back to sleep. It was hard enough trying to last night.
I sigh and lay my head back on my cold pillow, and the action stirs Em.
Her head lifts, and one half of her hair is flattened on her head.
I giggle and her eyes, filled with sleep, shoot to mine. Something else fills them though. Relief? Excitement? I can't put my finger on it.
"Hanna, how do you feel?" She squeezes my hand and I relish the sound of my name on her lips.
"I'm okay. I feel a lot better after eating and sleeping through the night." I say truthfully. As if on cue, my stomach growls loudly and Emily laughs.
"I'm glad your appetite is back to normal." Emily pats my belly and I place mine over hers.
"How are you..?" I hint at the pregnancy and she stands up, turning to the side and showing her little bump.
I grin widely at her progress. Since there are two babies inside of her, the bump is growing faster than it would with one baby. So, it's almost the size of a regular five month bump.
"You're a very attractive pregnant woman." I say and look up at her through my lashes. Something about the way she looks back at me sparks a feeling in the bottom of my stomach and my hips twitch a little.
Her hand leaves mine and rests itself on the inside of one of my exposed thighs. I close my eyes and breath out slightly in response to the feeling of her skin on mine.
I feel her finger under my chin and she tilts my head up to meet hers. I open my eyes long enough to find her lips and close then again when they connect.
Her hand presses against the back of my neck and pulls my closer to her. I tangle my fingers in her hair and pull slightly, causing her to quietly whimper into my mouth and pull away.
"Hanna, we aren't the only ones in this room." She whispers against my lips. I groan and kiss her lightly once more.
"Good morning Ms. Marin and friend," The doctor comes in at just the right time, and Emily almost laughs at his greeting. "Feeling better?" He asks me and I nod, staying silent, while he turns on his computer by jiggling the mouse.
"Em, tap my mom and wake her up." I whisper to Emily.
"Ashley, hey wake up." Emily squeezes her knee and she jumps slightly awake.
"What's wrong?" My mom asks immediately. Alert, yet groggy at the same time.
"Nothing, it's just morning." Emily says apologetically.
She stretches and, one by one, wakes all the girls up. Spencer offers to take everyone home and get them coffee.
"I'm in." Aria half-raises her hand.
"Sure, yeah." Alison shrugs.
"Okay, I'll pull the car around. What do you guys want?" Spencer looks at Em and I.
"I'll take a frappé." I pipe up.
"And I'll just have a caramel macchiato." Emily says, not taking her eyes off of me. This girl could be the death of me I swear.
"Okay lovebirds. I'll have your drinks in a few." Spencer teases and leaves.
Aria says a goodbye, then Alison. We watch them go, and then the doctor starts explaining what's going on.
Basically they need to put my ribs back into place so they can heal properly. I'll be on excessive amounts of medication for 4-6 weeks and I only have to stay in the hospital for 24 more hours.
He concludes, and exits the room.
"Well that's good news right?" Mom smiles and I do my best match hers, but I don't really succeed. "Oh come on Han. You can leave and go home to your own bed tomorrow!" She shakes my foot, trying to pump me up and I just sigh.
"I'm going to get breakfast. You guys hungry?" She asks after heading over to the door. We both shake our heads and Emily delivers a small smile. Mom leaves, and it's just the two of us.
I inspect Emily's outfit, and she's wearing my favorite sweatshirt of hers. It's the cuddliest price of clothing she has, and I crave the feeling of her arms around me.
I scoot over to the far left side of the bed to give her room and then I pat the space next to me.
"Are you sure?" She asks, skeptically. I nod, hungrily. She climbs into the bed and lifts her arm around me.
I snuggle closer to her and rest my head on her chest, where I can hear her steady heartbeat.
"I missed this." She whispers, her voice muffled and loud at the same time.
"Me too." I agree and squeeze her tight.
My eyes become heavy once again, and I give into their request.
