That night Riley stayed at my house. I cooked dinner, as she entertained my brother.
She made him life senseless and I was so amazed at how well she does with kids.
"Why don't you like kids? Your awesome with them." I asked making my brother a plate.
She picked him up and set him in his high chair before answering.
"Because there to needed and expensive." She said making sure he was comfortable before buckling him.
I rolled my eyes and headed him his plate.
I made my plate and and she made hers.
She sat down and she was extra quiet and I knew why. That bothered me so bad to know he was upset and I couldn't fix it. Well maybe one thing. The very thing I don't want to talk about but if it would get her to her normal self I would do it.
"So I think that guy likes me." I said taking a bite of food.
"What? I'm sorry I wasn't paying attention." She said her voice drained.
So much for that idea.
"Riley come your at my house, let's-" I couldn't even finish my sentence when a knock sounded on the door.
"Who's that?" Riley asked.
Not Alec or Dustin that's for sure, I thought. If they even set a foot on my porch I will shoot them both.
I open the door and my plate clattered to the floor.
Riley was right there beside me.
"Who are you?" She asked.
I was frozen and I couldn't think.
Why is he here?
"I'm Jake, and -" he could finish because Riley laughed.
"I know who you are." She said and I knew my face was red.
"You do." Jake said, as his glare settled on me making my toes curl.
"Oh yes Chevy's told me a lot about you." She said and if Riley loved anything more then horses it was making fun me.
At least her minds off the boys.
"Wow she wasn't kidding when she said you was hot." She said and that snapped me into focus.
Jake blushed.
"OK, what can I help ya with Jake?" I asked pushing Riley away with my hip.
She giggled and moved back just far enough she could still hear us.
"Um well you forgot your glasses." He said handing them to me.
"Thanks." I said grabbing them quickly.
We stood in an awkward silence for a moment.
"Do you want to hang out one day?" He asked suddenly.
I stared at him and then looked to Riley who held her thumbs up.
"Um yeah sure." I said nervously.
He smiled, "Does a movie sound OK?"
"Yeah a movie sounds great." I said cheerfully as possible.
He smiled and then blushed.
"Ok I will pick you up at 6?" He asked sliding down the step.
"Yeah." I said.
He smiled again and I was sure his face was going to be stuck like that.
"Bye Riley!" He called and she looked suprise she knew she was here.
But she replied, "Bye!"
I laughed and Jake chuckled.
"Bye Chevy."
"See ya."
I shut the door and sunk down onto the floor. Smiling to myself.
Riley joined me a moment later.
"Your first date." She said leaning her head on my shoulder. I chuckled.
"Yeah can you believe it?" It was rhetorical and I didn't expect her to answer but she did.
"Of course I do, anyone would be crash not to ask you out."
I just stared at my shoes.
"Just don't have sex with him." She said and I looked at her. She cracked a smile and we both burst out laughing.
