Reader's POV
He introduced himself as Link and told me to call him that instead of 'the hero of Hyrule'. He seemed to be a quiet and nice person. It was kind of comforting to me because it meant I wouldn't have to talk much either.
Link and I were still at the sweets shop as he looked through chocolates with me. But, what interested me was the plush toy along the empty shelf, it seemed to be the last one and it was a bunny holding a heart with strange engravings sewn carefully along with the small shape. It made me smile. That bunny was practically shining in my eyes. I think Link had caught me staring at it because he let out a slight chuckle and bought it for me.
"Take it," he said while handing me the doll.
"Thank you."
"It's no problem," then my heart started beating and that's when I realized how stupid I was. I was slowly starting to grow feelings for him. I recalled very vividly the scene of those girls earlier that would likely come for me. I was in a daze as Link waved his hand in front of me trying to get my attention. I looked at him in apology and before he could bat an eye, I ran.
I knew that I would be heartbroken if I got any closer. He's the hero of Hyrule that everyone treasures. Every girl's dream guy was him and I was just someone he met. We didn't go further than that.
'What was I thinking? I am a bother. I need to give up on him before my feelings spiral out of control.'
Little did I know, I had already been discovered.
Link's POV
She was running. (y/n) was running.
'What's going on? Why did she run?' I began to chase after her but, I stopped in my tracks only a few seconds after. A group of girls were smiling or rather, grinning from ear to ear as they walked out of a trashed house. My eyes widened as I realized she had been teased, bullied, and hurt simply because she was around me. The same girls smiled innocently at me as I strode towards them. They were laughing and giggling as I came near. I wanted to do something, to warn or scare them, at least something but, Zelda, who had appeared suddenly, stopped me.
"Let's take this elsewhere Link. These girls aren't worth a moment of our time," she said. Some girls just glared at her and the others had a shocked look planted on their faces.
"Wow, if you could just get out of the way. He was about to talk to me," one of the girls retorted. The remaining girls, Zelda, and I were staring at her in disbelief.
They whispered something to her and her eyes grew wide, "Sorry, sorry, thousand times sorry. Princess Zelda, please forgive us," the others responded and they escorted themselves out quickly while whispering "Way to go, stupid," to the one who made the rude remark.
'I'm guessing she didn't know she was Zelda,' I sighed in relief.
"Thanks," I muttered in gratitude. She was able to prevent me from potentially injuring a civilian and losing my status by deescalating the situation.
"No need, besides I came here for you."
"What now?"
"Gannon's back," I sighed once again but in anger.
"When will he give up and learn his lesson?" Zelda gave a slight giggle and led me back to the castle for details.
Before we left, I gave Epona her daily carrots and apples. Later mounting and riding off as a glow shined from inside my hat. Still worried for the girl, it would have to wait until next time. I just hoped nothing else would follow.
Reader's POV
I was outside of my house right after I ran from Link. I then realized it was a bad idea.
All I had in my home was thrown to the ground, creating shards and bits of trash on the floor. It was all scattered threateningly. Just why? What did I do to deserve this? I didn't try to intentionally anger them or anything. I just wanted to live a peaceful life and apparently, no one would be happy if I lived one with even a sliver of joy. My eyes moved to face my scars in the cracked mirror, the last time I saw them was when they were exposed openly by another's jealousy.
I was going to lose command of my body soon and I couldn't do anything but wait. It was bleeding red, a very dark red, but now, it was purple signaling that stupid curse was activating and it would only be a matter of time before everyone I would turn on me.
'It will all be my fault, everyone will blame me.'
I was crying, I couldn't stop this new emotion entering my head. Loneliness, I believed it was called but not too long after that, I passed out from the loss of energy. Soon enough, I would have another nightmare and it couldn't even compare to that of yesterdays. Nothing but the bunny plush could comfort me as my head lay tired on the rough, cold ground.
I was on a farm, specifically my mom and dad's. I was 6 again and was working on the field when a mysterious man came to greet my parents. They told me to stay outside and I did but, I heard something strange, something I'm guessing I wasn't supposed to hear.
"Your daughter needs to come so we can finish the experiment," the said man stated.
"You said that we'd be with her until she was 10, you came 4 years earlier. She can't face this without being traumatized," this time my mom was practically crying tears. I walked closer to my home until I was only separated by a wall.
"Sorry, but he said that it happened faster than we had expected. We need her more than you do, I'll spare your life if you hand her over now with no complaints," he replied but, with a slightly duller tone than before.
My parents were shaking their heads and looked at each other, both unsure of what to do.
"She will find out something that doesn't need to be known to her. It will eat her self away, she's still too young for this," my dad tried to explain.
'What is this, a memory or a dream? It's fake but, it gives me a feeling of dread and what do they mean 'eat my self away'? Is he going to ta-,' the man interrupted my thoughts.
"Well then you leave me no choice," he was opening the door outside and I ran right where I was supposed to be. His gaze landed on me and he smiled frighteningly. He brought me inside, then whispered in my ear, "Enjoy this time while you can." Those words effectively sent shivers up my spine as he left me in question, staring at my parents.
The next thing I know, they were both crying together as they hugged me. They were telling me that it would be fine and gave me some time alone to wander around. I began to question that man and before I knew it, it was already past bedtime.
I went to bed like I always did and was staring at the ceiling, waiting for my mom to kiss me goodnight but, they never came. I slowly got off my bed and walked towards their bedroom, light shining through the door and instead of heading inside, I only pushed the door open a bit more in suspicion. I was frozen to my spot, the man from earlier was carrying a knife directed towards my still fully awake parents and he ran to stab them both. My dad was first, he screamed for what I thought was the first time I heard him yell in pain. Then the man took the knife out and headed straight towards my mom, stabbing her in her stomach, successfully shocking me to my knees. As she screeched, I ran away and called to the villagers who lived nearby as they frantically brought me in. I was pretty sure it was going to be fine until that man came again and he saw me making me fully aware that more people would die for protecting me.
I ran out the door, heading towards the field and saw a boy probably 2 years older than me. He had dirty blonde hair and a green tunic, he was sitting down on a small hill and near him was a glowing blue fairy. At the sound of my soft steps, the mysterious boy turned around.
